Good evening, this is a second try, I posted this earlier but it has disappeared...

I have a '14 ram, 5.7, 8HP70 with 150k on the clock.

I have had an issue with the transmission stuttering when in traffic and lightly on and off the gas, it was more annoying than anything, I have talked to several tranny guys and all of them wanted to change the fluid and filter, also some thought it seemed like a miss so they recommended doing a tune-up. both of those have been done and the problem has been getting worse since the service.

Now it is shifting hard at low speeds, feels like you're hitting something when the 2-3/3-4 shift happens. a couple of weeks ago I was in heavy traffic and at around 25 mph i went to accelerate at ~25% throttle and the truck bogged down like it was stuck in a high gear and nearly stalled out. that hasn't happened since. Yesterday I had to drive a couple of hundred miles and I set the cruse at 78 on the turnpike and it felt like it was missing occasionally. I borrowed a friend's laptop with HPTuners and did some testing today.

I ran the truck and tested for misfires and KR, in an hour of driving I recorded 1 misfire, however the system was continually retarding between 3 and 8 degrees the timing though the sensors were generally reading less than 1V. I don't think i have an engine problem, and the truck acts the same with MDS active and not.

While hooked up I had some new issues, first I got off of the expressway and stopped for a light at the end of the ramp and the truck died with no warning, had to screw with the shift knob to get it into park and restart. later I pulled into a parking spot and put it into reverse to back up and and straighten out, it died then and once again had to work it into park, and it was slow to turn over like a dead battery (was at 13.5v). Finally a third time i was doing a three point turn in a tight area and when I put it into reverse it errored out and required me to go to park, truck didn't die this time.

There aren't a lot of parameters available to log in HPTuners, however I ws watching the solenoid currents, solenoid B seemed to hang at 360mA while the others (A-E) were generally either on or off 850mA/50mA respectively. there were no obvious jumps in the TCC solenoid or pressure solenoid. The oddest reading i noted was it randomly going into and out of limp mode, though I didn't get any trouble codes or MILs.

Does any of this sound like any known issues? are there any specific things to look at or things to troubleshoot to try and get more definitive diagnostics info?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you and sorry for the long post.

I'm not totally your guy on this , but has your tranny ever had a filter and fluid change done. If no then I would have it done as 150k miles is a lot for the fluid on these as per the manufacturer. These 8 sp trannies have been very dependable.

Have you cleaned the throttle body? With the misfire did it give you a code? If so it could be a bad plug or a coil pack. Swap to another cylinder to clarify what is at fault, coil or plug and advise from there.

according to the manual and mopar recommendations this is lifetime fluid and doesn't ever need changed, however fluid and filter were changed, it is since that the problems have gotten worse. As for the misfire i think a single misfire is not a major concern over an hour of driving, it dint even show up on an individual cylinder, it may have been a computer fluke or some other anomaly.

I have read where some people have had a torque converter shudder, but have not seen anything on the root cause of the problem. I'm leaning toward a trans electrical or solenoid issue, but hoping someone can provide more guidance.

Kind of sounds like what mine is doing. Dealer recommended trans fliuid change. They said it is recommended at 50k on the 8spd.:4-dontknow:

Did they use MOPAR fluid and filter? The 8sp is picky on fluid.

A low battery can do weird things, what is the battery voltage in the morning before starting the truck?

There are quite a few things that could cause your issues from electrical, to camshaft, to trans.

Stupid question, but they used Mopar 8& 9 speed transmission fluid when they did the change right? For some reason when I went to a dealer their system told me my truck took ATF+4 so I briefly told the service advisor to learn about the vehicles he services and got the hell out of there

Mine is doing the same thing I thought it was plugs out all tune up on it but now po943 popes up low current to pressure sensor I was also told change the filters the screw on can break at the seams and pressure will bleed off bad thing is mine has been rebuilt so I’m doubting the filter is bad
