Alright this will be a brief review as I hope to keep expanding on it as I travel more with this truck and trailer.

MY TRUCK
2012 Ram 1500
Trailer tow package, 3.92 and outdoorsman package, with this i get load e range tires stock, class 4 hitch and trailer brake controller.
Tires when towing are 55 front 65 rear
15,500 gcwr
I do have Airlift 1000 air bags that fit inside coil suspension but air down to approx 10psi when towing

MY Trailer
2013 Sprinter 266rbs
29'5" exterior length 26' interior length
Full height with 80" interior
6600lbs dry per sticker not book
tw=654lbs book ( i'm guessing i'm close to this but as my camper less than 100lbs from book weight.
9500grvw

I do not have detail weights but plan to get weight soon as i'm having a few issues with sway and want to know my numbers exactly before I try to take to much corrective action.

Last trip was about 150 miles one way. Trip was Warrensburg Ny which is just North of Lake George NY. When you pass Lake George you start getting into the mountains.

So I've made a few trips local with no issues at all. Last trip I was trying to see what the truck could do for this trip and managed to get the oil up to 230 which made me a littler nervous.

The trip was good overall averaged 9.77mpg per hand calc, 40 miles were county roads doing about 50 mph and last 110miles were highway ( no fuel economy on the way home yet as i havent gotten gas but truck said 8.4 and on the way up said 10.5). The truck handled the weight great. Overall i'm very impressed. As stated I encounted a little sway but as long as I was at 55 I didn't feel anything including semi's. Truck could go much faster but just wasn't comfortable with doing it. Truck stayed in 5th for most of the trip with some downshifts to 4th nothing over 3k rpms. The last mile of the trip is all up hill and this is what I was worried about.

By this part most of all the vehicle left the highway and it was just me so i hit the hill running at 65mph in 4th at about 2700rpms. I ended the hill at 55mph at about 2500rpms. This surprised me greatly. I could have easily down shift but because of the past issue with oil temp tried to keep the engine in a slight higher gear.

I was monitoring temp then entire way from coolant to trans to engine oil

The Coolant got to 215 once but quickly lowered
The Trans stayed right around 159-163 the entire way
The Engine Oil stayed right around 222 but that last mile up hill caused it to rise to 230. Once getting off the highway it lowered but It wouldnt have if I stayed on the highway after this up hill. The way home was a little windier and and cause a little more shifting to 4th but all temps stayed the same. If anything trans ran a little cooler as I kept it in 4th a little longer by manually selecting gears. The oil temp stayed at 228 the entire way home.

Overall I was very impressed with the truck. I think the trailer is at about 7600lbs. This is also a full height trailer not an ultra light like many may have. This would cause more wind resistance and worse towing.

Since coming home yesterday I purchased a derale oil cooler kit hoping to lower those temps a little, if they lowered by themselves like the coolant does i wouldn't worry but once they get to a temp after working the seem to hold that temp. I will report back with the findings with this kit as I hope to install it next week and have a bigger trip planned the following week thats 2 hrs past lake george and into vermont

I hope so, it comes with a built in thermostat that won't start cooling the fluid until it reaches 180 degrees.

Another thing my truck is at just under 4500 miles. Some say mileage will improve we'll see. I will also be switching to synthetic oil when installing the cooler which may help mileage and temps slightly

Mileage won't improve much, but the synthetic oil will help a lot. Nice write-up! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Nice thing about synthetic oil is two fold. One being the oil temp drops some. The other being the heat will not break down the oil under extreme heat it keeps proper lubrication factors perfect.
