Hey all, hope you can help.

I have an 03 ram and yesterday I had my wheel turned to left, placed in park and got out to do something. When I got back in and put my truck into drive and take off, it stalled. Any ideas as to why this could happen would be great. It's only got 85k on it and I keep the maintenance up to date on it. :4-dontknow:

You happened to run out of gas right at that instant?

OK, to be serious, I don't think it's a transmission problem (torque converter clutch engaging and stalling the engine). That typically happens after a longer shutdown (like overnight). If your solenoid switch valve (SSV) is stuck in the wrong position (which might cause such a stall), you should get a CEL and a fault code.

I presume this only happened one time, and all OK now? Then I probably wouldn't worry about it. You can't really track down the cause if it now refuses to stall any more. So just keep driving it, and if the stalling starts to occur more frequently, post again and we'll see if we can't diagnose it.

Stalling problems are notorious...

I have an 05 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi. My truck stalls all the time if I'm not careful. Don't shift into reverse with the wheel turned - that will help. Dodge issued a TSB for the problem, so you can take it to the dealer and ask them to reprogram your computer. I don't know whether they'll charge you for this - probably not, since it's a manufacturer defect. It's an idle problem - the IAC doesn't respond fast enough when shifting from park into reverse (the idle drops and the motor can't sustain itself). I have a SuperChips tuner on my truck, so their TSB fix didn't help me, because my tuner overrides their update. I will warn you, the dealer "fix" didn't actually resolve the problem 100% either. Bottom line, this is a notorious problem with these trucks. Bottom line - get the dealer TSB computer update, and don't shift into reverse with the wheel turned. Make sure you're accelerating a little when you turn the wheel to keep the idle up. Yes, it's annoying, but I love my truck, so it's worth it. Hope this helps!

Right turn stalls

Hey Bud, I had the same problem. I found out by replacing the throttle position sensor (TPS) it will no longer do that. I was reading through and saw your I hope this helps. It's easy to install. Just under the Air Resonator Box. Its been good for a whole year now even went up 4x4ing here in Colorado up to some of our 11k foot dirt roads run excellent we had a good time.

Well just a couple days ago it stalled coming home from work as if I turned the key off while driving.
No warning run perfect up until then. Always starts up and runs just under a mile or two and then stalls agian. I need to post this part.

Respectfuly,

Jeff
