Well like many I got up one morning and had exterior light issues. High beam one side low beam the other, no fog lights, no front blinkers, one right side rear blinker, right side brake.

Of course the dash "lamp out" warning was on. In taking you guys advise I drove it in to have it diagnosed at the dealer instead of throwing money at it.

Well 6 hours later they tell me that my 2005 Daytona 1500 4x4 with 130k miles on it is worthless. They state on the paper work "PDC has internal failure, parts discontinued and none available at this time".

Over night for no reason my truck went from hero to zero...I'm told it has zero trade in value. I'm told by the dealer that Dodge has discontinued many computer boards . So be warned the truck that we care so much for has parts that Dodge no longer makes or supports. This whole thing makes me sick.

I also have a 2006 300c with the same motor and only 34k miles on it. The same thing could happen to it.

I have gotten a hold of customer service through the internet. They did tell me they put me on a priority recall list for the air bag....Really ....a lot of good and air bag gonna do me if I can't drive my truck...

Any body ever had this issue, if so did you just scrap your truck?

Look for a wrecked 2005 ram 1500 4x4, same motor and transmission. Snag it from that.

It's an on-going thing with those years, any sort of non-factory load can ruin the whole she-bang.

That is absolutely insane!!! So they are not making the parts and your out of luck, that sounds ridiculous!!! Is it possible to get parts from the junkyard? Honestly I've never heard of something like this happening where something is worthless and can't be fixed. I hope you can find a solution.

I never thought that i would say something like this:

? hopefully your 2005 Daytona has the automatic transmission ?

If it does, go to a wrecking yard & find a Ram with the same engine & automatic transmission, that still has the part that you need & any harness going to it, if any

2003 - 2005 Ram 1500
or a
2003 - 2008 Ram 2500 or 3500

first switch out the needed part & hopefully everything works

If it doesn't work, you have another option, it will require you to turn in a computer, do NOT turn in your OEM computer, ( you will need every bit of information that is on your orginal part ) . turn in the one from the junk yard

I will not point you to any particular website,

http://store.allcomputerresources.com/dodge.html
http://www.autocomputerperformance.com/chryslerdodgejeep.html
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/dodge-ram-1500-computer
https://www.automodulesource.com/

==========================================================

If you have a Stick Shift transmission
First get an official statement from the dealership, that reads what it needs to be done to get it running, along with the price(s)
Then submit a request to get your Ram Emissions Exempt ...
Then buy the part through JEGS, SUMMIT, or some other like company, it will be a good working part for Racing & it won't pass the smog rules

Good Luck !!

Yeah the junk yard thing was my first question.... You ready for this.... Salvage parts won't work. This board is programed from the factory to match the vin. It is not reprogrammable. To use a used one you have to change every computer on your truck including the ignition and your keys....

New ones were programmable but they quit making them. Not one to be found anywhere in the country. The dealer doesn't even have a part number for it. To them it doesn't exist....

They said, well if you knew someone who worked on computer boards they "might" be able to help.... Ok... so I asked what kinda info or specs do I tell them it should show.... duh I don't know was his answer...

this whole thing is a kick in the short hairs... I'm not very happy with Dodge right now. If I have to part out my pride and joy because they decided not to support their product they won't be getting anymore of my money.

Who knows maybe chevy and ford do the same thing but I don't own one. I want mine supported...

Take what your dealership told you with a grain or two of salt
maybe they just want your 2005 Daytona

People are putting rebuilt units in their dodge rams all of the time, at least up to 2008,
In 2009 Dodge did make electronic changes with the new Can Bus system

I will just point you to GOOGLE, at times like this, it is your best friend

I asked the dealer what would they give me on a trade in and they said they didn't want it.... I asked if that was because it wasn't fixable and they said yes.

The original bill was like $600 but cut it in half when they found out nothing could be done to repair it....

It's been 3 weeks now without a definite answer from Detroit on a solution.

Yes I'm pissed off about it. Like many Ram fans I've put a lot of money in it and I'm not giving up without a fight...

Thanks for the Daytona club tip....

I'll definitely keep you guys posted on what if anything results from my Detroit emails.

I don't see how it can be much different? 100% sure on having to change everything?

If that's the case, find a written off ram similar to yours, but the whole truck, swap the electronics.

I know in the case of the PDC I had issues with (2008 Dakota) we just bought a PDC from another with the exact same options, just different color, and it worked fine.

Well two dealers have told me mine is matched to the vin swapping wasn't an option. It would throw error codes and run like crap...

Yeah if I could find a truck with a blown motor or shot drive train I could swap those out.. Geez the work and cost because of a discontinued part...

The point is why? They need to supply parts to support their product. If Dodge want to do the right thing an give me the value of my truck since they can't fix it, fine I'll start over... I guarantee as time goes by I won't be the only one with this issue...

Well guys quick update...

They threw me under the bus on this & said there's nothing more they can do, good by...

"Nothing more" they didn't do anything to help me out in the first place...

They say the dealer who tested it won't give them any info... One of your own dealers won't

cooperate with you? Really..

I guess it's time to get the local TV station involved to let fellow Ram owners or at least 2005 Ram owners know Dodge doesn't support your vehicle parts 100%.

This has become a very large pile of BS...

Eff the dealer. They're in the business of selling new trucks, not fixing 10-year old ones.

Start searching for a place that will either refurbish your PDC (later ones are called the "total integrated power module" or TIPM, and are just as problem-plagued). There are places out there that will refurb them, any good electronics technician can work on them given the right information (which may be hard to find, but its leaking out there...). The aftermarket won't give up just because car manufacturers only provide full support going back 10 model years.

But new ones MIGHT still be available outside the dealer network. A quick googling turns up this, didn't check to see if its in stock but it shows to be available:

i assume all the Daytona's come with the 5.7. if so, you can't put any computer older then 05 in it. the Transmission support is different.

There are also after market companies that make contrtol systems for our trucks. Mega Squirt is one that I have heard of that can also supply you with a replacement harness if you need it. i am not sure of all the details just have read a lot of stuff about it, mainly due to my truck being an 03 bastard and wanting to change out the none TCM supporting computer down the line.

i know that we are not supposed to talk about other forums on this one. But, most of my experience is on ****************** forum and I know we have members that can help you with this problem.

Sorry in advance if this isn't aloud.

Those computer places that i posted have all the equipment & software to make your Ram run as it should as long as it has an automatic transmission

i can't say how effective the reconditioning on those units if you have a stick shift, those are the ones with a clutch, if you are not familiar with terminology
some younger ppl have never seen a vehicle with a clutch, & wouldn't know how to steal a vehicle with a stick shift, even if the key was left in the vehicle

That really bites, Larry! Hope it works out for you. Keep us updated. I'm thinking a lot of 3rd gen RAM owners will be watching this with high hopes.

I had my recalls' done and was asking the parts guy about this and he told me that he can get the TIPM no problem. He also said you can get a junkyard unit to get the truck to run, then get it programmed with your VIN. I asked him if any parts were discontinued and he's positive that there isn't.

Maybe the TIPM is available but the PDC isn't. I had dealers in Illinois and texas look it up with the same "not available" answer.

On a brighter side I wouldn't take no for an answer and found a guy in NC selling one the same year as mine. Same options and functions but 1 digit off on the part number.

I took the $150 chance and low and behold I have lights. No reprograming by the dealer, no issues with starting, nothing..... well almost nothing, I have the air bag light lit now that wasn't before. I can live with that if I can't get it figured out.

I will be reaching out to the customer service jerk I dealt with and telling them the snot nose kids they have running their service department where I went don't know squat.... If they don't read it in a book they can think out side the box...

On top of that after making a few calls myself it turns out the rep I was dealing with online flat out lied and never tried to get ahold of the dealer....

At least I have my truck running... I hope the air bag don't kill me now... It's recalled.... Ready for the air bag challenge now...

Thanks for your help out there. never say never...
