C'mon guys...do you really think they're "working on it" when 60% of their profits come from the service department. Why would they want you to be able to tune your own car when theyv'e set certain performance parameters in order to keep the engine detuned to the point that they can afford to offer you the mileage and years of warranty coverage?
If you keep the rpm's below a certain threshold, and the shift points to a certain rpm point....it saves the wear and tear on the engine....thus they can offer the warranty and by a lot of testing on their dyno and measuring wear factors....can tell that if you stay below a certain performance threshold, you increase the longevity of the engine and drive train XXX miles or years. By locking you out the ability to tune your engine and tranny to ABOVE factory recommended (and locked in stats) and testing thresholds, they in essence potentiially, and the operative word is "potentially" decrease the possibility of mechanical failures or shortened life of the drive train, be it in the engine, drive train, or other related parts. ..very basically, they detune your engine for longer life and allow them to offer a 36K warranty. No big mystery really.
