So, I just installed the uConnect module and iPod cable in my 2011 Big Horn. I went and got the truck flashed by a buddy that works at a local dealership. He started quizzing my about my installation, and that I installed my microphone wrong.

I wanted my install to be clean, and I did not want the microphone visible. I mounted underneath the A Frame trim on the driver side. Does anybody that has the uConnect installed from the factory have a visible microphone?

I have used it a couple times since install, an I am still not convinced that I do not have to move it to the outside of the trim where it will be visible. I keep getting told I sound distant, clear but distant.

On a side note, the bluetooth streaming from my iPhone works well, but I wish t could interact with the phone a little more via bluetooth, i.e. list will not work, but functions when I have the phone plugged into the iPod cable.

On my Ram, i have the microphone in the rear view mirror, most of them came that way & it is a POS, i have to close my windows & turn down my A/C fan to use it

On my last truck, i had a small •Unidirectional microphone: noise reduction, echo cancellation mounted above & in front of my right ear, it mounted tight against the headliner & overhead console, worked great !!
I could drive with both of my windows wide open & talk normally

most car companies have moved the microphone to the A pillar on the drivers side

The mic should be on the outside of the "A" trim. With it behind the plastic, you will sound distant because the audio has to go thru or aroud the plastic trim. Now depending on how creative and careful you are, you could do something that I did for a friend that didn't want to see the mic.
I took the headliner completly out of the truck after placing a piece of tape on the headliner area just in front of and above his head. I then carefully removed a small section of the headliner backing where only the fabric was seen. I then made a small ABS plastic plate to adhere the mic to using the 2 sided tape and then places a small dab of silicone on 2 of the outer edges of the ABS plate. The plate was then adhered to the backside of the headliner by the small dabs of silicone. This worked great because the mic was right above him and only had the fabric in front of the mic instead of the plastic that you currently have.
Kind of like trying to taalk with your hand over your mouth, sure you can talk but you're muffled.
