Hi... my new to me 2006 Dodge Ram has a weird thumping sound as I drive it on the road. It almost sounds as though something is loose in the bed of the truck. It doesn't seem to matter if the truck is traveling fast or slow, over rough or smooth roads. It doesn't seem to be associated with either braking or acceleration. Apart from the sound, I don't feel the truck shudder or act strange. It is just this random thumping sound.

At first I thought maybe the wind was causing the back mud flaps to swing back and hit the fenders, but I don't think that's the cause. I wondered if the leaf suspension might be binding and releasing in the back, but again, I'm not sure.

Has anyone else had this noise, and if so, did you figure out the cause? Thanks in advance...

Is the spare tire winch tight?

everything seems tight and well connected underneath the truck. It doesn't appear to be associated with the leaf springs but it does seem to come from the back right corner of the truck. I wondered if there might be a problem with the rear differential or perhaps the abs brakes?

Doubtful it's the ABS beingst that the ABS is basically a magnet over a tone ring. Nothing really to go thump. Could be one of the springs lose and clapping. Are the shocks tight and still good?
