i am going to get new rimz & tirez so my question is what size rim would you go with?
18" or 20"?
I pull a trailer in the summer it's 30ft & about 6500 lbs
so my concerns are a tire being to wide & eat all my gas & road noise from bigger tires

i was thinking about going with 295/70/18 or should i go with 20"'s??
the tire i'm getting is the Terra Grappler hands down love this tire.

anyone with suggestions would be greatly appreciated pics would be nice too

1. Since your profile doesn't specify, but your mods list shows 20 inch laramie wheels, I presume you have a 1500 that came with factory 17s. What size tires are you already running on the 20s, factory 275/60R20s?
2. Road noise is affected by tread design more than tire width, so since you have already decided on the Terra Grappler, the point is moot.
3. If you are towing and concerned with gas mileage, I would be more concerned with tire height, not width, as a taller tire will hurt your gear ratio. Again, since you didn't specify I will start with factory 265/70R17s which list as 31.8 inches tall. 295/70R18s calculate to 34.25 inches tall - if you have a 3.92 gear, the taller tire makes your effective gear ratio 3.64 - if you are starting with a 3.55, it becomes 3.30. How does it tow with the current 20s?
4. What size are you considering in the 20s? (295/60R20s calculate to 33.95 inches tall, factory 275/60R20s are 33 inches)
5. Why 18s or 20s - do you have a specific rim in mind? What is the pricing difference for the complete set of wheels and tires between the 18s and the 20s? An online "direct discount tire" site lists the Terra Grappler 295/70R18s for $255 each and the 295/60R20s for $331 so that is $300 more just for 4 tires, let alone the rims. Is the cost difference even a factor for you? (If you are concerned with fuel mileage, then this cost is likely important too.)

I'm happy with my 285/70R17s on factory rims. Visually you can tell they are slightly bigger than stock, but not so much as to drastically hurt performance - of course this is on an 06 2500 5.9L Cummins with a tuner and 4.10 gears, so I have plenty of power.

the truck tows great. i had 285/45/22 on in the summer & drove to NJ with the trailer & had no issues. other then gas mileage but that's my driving!!

not sure why i was looking at the 20 to be honest. i really like the look of the bigger tires. im thinking the 20 would weigh more than the 18 with the same rim. i guess im trying to get what i want & not sacrifice gas mileage, probably not gonna happen.
this is what im leaning towards:

i like the taller tire

The link shows a file photo of 20s and the specs as 18x9 Fuel Hostage Black Nitto Trail 285/65-18. These are 33 inches tall, same as the factory 20s, but the 285/45R22s spec to 32 inches so there is a difference, but it's in middle ground between all the other specs, so it won't be too bad. Keep in mind too, the link shows you spec'd out Trail Grapplers vs Terra Grapplers - the Trail Grapplers will be a LOT louder.

Make sure you post pics when you get em on - it will look pretty badass!!

for that tire I would say 18's... 18's will make the tire look a bit bigger plus 18's and tires to fit 18's will be alot cheaper
