Curious if anyone has swapped any 6.1 HEMI parts to the 5.7 HEMI, I've seen posts about the cam and that's about it, I'm wondering about the rocker arms intake with the TB even the fuel injectors and plug coils. Parts that don't involve tearing the engine down or out that can add performance. Has anyone done anything to this effect with good results?

I would also like to know about this and how hard is it to put a new cam in these engines? I bet it would be a pretty expensive upgrade for probably fairly small gain but I could be wrong about that.

With an intake swap I would expect to see top end gains with a loss of low end performance. Not really what you want for a truck. Bigger injectors are pointless if you aren't moving more air into the cylinders. Swapping rockers won't yeild anything either.

I have yet to see any cams (at least from Mopar) that are compatible with MDS engines. If you're not making mods to the heads and induction system, a cam just isn't enough bang for the buck IMO.

Just thinking that the 6.1 might have a better rocker ratio or maybe a better flowing TB just looking for parts that are already proven that would be simple to swap. Maybe find a complete 6.1 in a scrap yard to pull parts from.

As I understand you can swap a aftermarket cam to a MDS Hemi with no drivability issues, I have read of swaps in some of the other "forums"

You would probably have to have a complete donor vehicle for the engine, trans, and ECU and someone with acess to Dodges DRBIII handheld scanner to program the little problems

Some parts can be swapped from the 6.1 into the 5.7 with no issues (just some time for the CPU to learn them). A 6.1L camshaft swap will net you approx 20RWHP.

Competition Cams makes three good cams for the 2009 5.7 and there are a couple of others out there who do as well! Match a good cam with some CNC Heads and you've got something there!

a big YES! a good tq cam that is easy on the pcm would be a franks sidewinder...it brings the powerband lower and would get that beast up to speed sooner...

If your going to do a cam I think it would be better to buy one rather than the 6.1 cam. Your going to prob get a little more power with an aftermarket cam

this web site is not always fully correct, but, its good for general knowledge, it explains the differences in the 5.7 with MDS & other 5.7 engines that don't use MDS

Six-speed manual transmission and all Heavy Duty truck applications will differ by not having the Multiple Displacement System (MDS). The new version of the 5.7L has five different camshaft profiles. All will have VCT.

What would it take to make my non-MDS Hemi with 345 HP like the late model heavy duty (2500/3500) non-MDS Hemi? The engines are the same displacement, did they change the cam and reprogram the ECU - just curious
