88 D250, 318. Ive just got it running, however, I tried moving it today and it was a no go. I put it in gear and it engages, give it gas and it tries (faintly) to move, but just stalls before moving.

Sorry, my internet has been down for days. I checked the fluid, it was low so I filled it. It now moves, but very sluggish. If too much exertion is given (which is still VERY little) it will stall, generally with backfire out of the throttle body. I'm wondering, could this be at all due to a misaligned distributor? I pulled it out to change the ignition pickup, I marked it to make reinstallment easier, but I may have it out of alignment? Or is this still more likely a transmission issue?

timing could be off.

did you check the transmission fluid level with the truck running in neutral? could need a bit more fluid than you think.

Yeah, I had it in neutral. Ill try playing with the timing as well. My diff is looking leaky too, I don't think its the issue, but it could be worth a look.
