I just bought a 2014 ram sport, and it came with 20" tires. I just ordered 17" rims and 285/70/17 Blizzak DM-V1 for the winter. Just wondering if anyone had any experience changing the tires size, and how these tires perform in the winter.

I've had the Blizzaks on my Dodge Magnum RT rwd. They were very good but don't put them on until cold weather and take em off early. They wore fast once things get warm. I presume yours is rwd. I've never felt the need for snow tires on my 4x4 Ram, it goes so good with all seasons. Except for the GY HP's, that is. Those were useless. If yours is rwd, you might throw 3 or 4 bags of tube sand in the back for better traction.

I'm also looking into buying winter tires and 17" rims for my 2014 ram 1500 crew cab. I've had the blizzaks on my SUV and they were great in the snow but not quite as good on ice as my michelin x-ice tires. I have a question though... I am looking at the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV tire and was wondering if it would be ok to use them on my truck. The load range is SL where as the load range on the Hakkapeliitta LT2 is E. If I'm not carrying anything really heavy in the truck, am I ok using the R2? Reason I'm asking is after looking at reviews and info on both tires, the R2 seems to be the better performer on ice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much about tire loads.

I didn't have them on a truck, but an AWD Taurus. They were awesome in any amount of snow, and just OK on ice (but then, nothing is great on ice except maybe studs or chains). Go easy on bare roads, dry pavement will eat them up fast. As said above put them on late and take them off early, should last through a couple seasons with ease.

My truck is 4x4, but I have always run winter tires on all of my vehicles. With our weather, it is about slush and ice. I find the winter tires necessary for stopping efficiently. Plus I have two young children, so I would rather be over cautious.
