Winter tires

I just bought a 2014 ram sport, and it came with 20" tires. I just ordered 17" rims and 285/70/17 Blizzak DM-V1 for the winter. Just wondering if anyone had any experience changing the tires size, and how these tires perform in the winter.

I've never felt the need for snow tires on my 4x4 Ram, it goes so good with all seasons. Except for the GY HP's, that is. Those were useless. If yours is rwd, you might throw 3 or 4 bags of tube sand in the back for better traction.

My truck is 4x4, but I have always run winter tires on all of my vehicles. With our weather, it is about slush and ice. I find the winter tires necessary for stopping efficiently. Plus I have two young children, so I would rather be over cautious.
