I picked up my 1500 Laramie Limited 3 weeks ago and filled up the tank from empty today for the first time. It only took 23 gallons which let me know I had the 26 gallon tank instead of the standard 32 gallon tank that it was suppose to come with. I emailed the salesman a little while ago. Can anyone tell me if that will be an easy fix for them to install the correct size tank. I am clueless so your feedback would be appreciated prior to me actually talking to the sales guy.

Thx - Harv

I just filled up yesterday when my fuel light came on and my EVIC indicated I had only 45 miles to empty. My fuel economy AVG read 16.4 so I guesstimated I had somewhere around 3-4 gallons of fuel in reserve. I filled up with 28.85 gallons of Premium for $112.00.
Which is just about right at 32 gallons. You say you filled up with 23 gallons but did you get all your data correct before coming to your conclusion of having the smaller tank? You could have easily had 8-9 gallons left in your tank before your fill.

Considering my Big Horn some how came with a Tradesman interior I'm not surprised. Check your window sticker. Try the dealership first, but make sure you push hard and get a case open with Ram customer service ASAP. They take forever...

I had 51 miles left on the EVIC and have been getting about 15.3 all city driving during the break-in period so perhaps I had more gallons in the tank than what I estimated. I just read some other posts noting an issue where 5-7 gallons were available when the tank light would come on. Like I said "clueless" so I may just crawl under in the morning and see if tank size is noted on the tank.

While you're under there, write down the part number indicated on the bottom of your tank. I'll check mine right now. The letters and numbers towards the bottom rear of my tank are; >PE-HD, PE-LD, EVAL<

Hope this helps a little, if any.

I have a Longhorn with a 32 gallon tank. I get the low fuel warning when I have around 11 gallons left??? Dealer confirmed I ave a 32 gallon tank and I got the build sheet from Chrysler to confirm. When I am about half full I put in around16 gallons to fill completely. GO figure. Still a good idea to check the part number as described above.

Computer your mpg's

In addition to physically checking the dimension & part # of the gas tank, keep in mind the fuel reminder is set to keep you from ever running out of gas - even at a low average mpg.
So measure your mpgs and watch the range on the tank, before you conclude you got the wrong tank attached.

26 instead of 32

I just filled my new 2017 up today and it only took 26 gals to fill it up. The fuel light had been on for a while, my avg mpg was at 19.5 and it displayed a range of 41miles. The truck vin matched my window sticker that said the truck had a 32. This first truck i looked at had a 26 and i told them i wanted one with the 32 so they took a week to find me one. They want me to run the truck down to a 10 mile range so they can test the tank. So when they find that it does indeed only have a 26 gal tank what should i ask them to do about it. Im sure my trade in is long gone.

Crawl under the truck and on the gas tank there is a sticker that says the size.... they have a larger reserve so even when you're on E you still have 5-6 gallons of gas left. Everyone asks this question and I don't think I've ever seen anyone that actually has the wrong size tank.

Yup that's a big topic. Big reserve ,some say it uses the same sending unit as a 26 gallon tank. I don't know if it does or doesn't.

Wouldn't it be easier for your dealer to measure the length of your tank and compare it to the 26 gallon tank? I would be surprised if you have the smaller tank if your build sheet says otherwise. As was said above, there is a large reserve. It takes driving for quite a while after the low fuel light comes on just to get 28-29 gallons in mine. I don't ever want to have to put 32 gallons in mine because if I do it will mean that I ran out of gas.

If you want to know what size fuel tank you have, you can find out as fast as you can type

go here
http://www.ramtrucks.com/webselfservice/ram/
then look for the words Your Vehicle
then the words Equipment Listing, click on it
enter your VIN# in the new window

I've driven my till the needle was past the red E and the miles was no longer give, just low fuel. It still only took 25 gallons in my 27 gallon tank.
You were closer than you think. It's a 26 gallon tank. Ive put 26 .3 gallons in mine before. Not on purpose.

I suggest that now that you know how low you can go

Stop running the tank low on purpose, the only way that the fuel pump is kept cool, is by being surrounded by fuel.
Don't assume that the dealership will absorb the cost of the fuel pump & the labor to drop & reinstall the fuel tank just because you are under warranty.
Warrantied parts are sent back to the FCA's Engineering Dept. to find out what caused the failure.

Guess you would have to find it in writing that if you run out of gas ,chrysler won't warranty it. There not going to send your pump to chrysler to check it out before they warranty it. I've never said to run it out if gas. But I guarantee that if it has a 1/8 tank it has enough to keep it cool. Mine at a 1/8 has at least 4 gallons in it.
