Most of the ticks are when the truck is idleing. It sounds like spark knock. What octane gas are you using? I run 91 all the time. I use Amsoil 5W-20 with an Amsoil filter and change at 25,000 miles. I have the tick when idleing but not heard while driving.

I also thought it was a spark knock but I also run 91 (sometimes 97) octane and have even tried a bottle of octane boost and if it was a spark knock wouldn't it knock all the time?

 

I've been using 93 octane since a month after I got my truck because i noticed a tick and haven't noticed a tick since....but then again I might have gotten used to it if there is one lol. I'll check in a bit to see if there is still one.

 

I have something similar going on with my 2004. It has a slight tick to it when idling but it's very quite and not extremely noticeable. Obviously, this seems to be the norm with these hemi engines. We have a fleet of hemi Chargers at work and they all do it so it doesn't concern me.

Here's the issue. It has a tick type noise that only seems to appear under load. The noise doesn't seem to be there idling or just easing around but appears when you get on it the slightest bit. It's really loud, especially when passing others cars, buildings, etc. I thought it was an exhaust leak...that's exactly what it sounds like. But I took it to the mechanic who ran smoke through the exhaust system and found no leak. I took him for a ride and tried to point the noise out to him and he said he thought it was normal. I also read about the exhaust bolt issues and looked at all of them that I can see and they all look normal. So I'm at a loss. The sound I am hearing is definitely not spark knocking or pinging.

 

I had the tick too. Turns out I had 3 broken exhaust manifold bolts, creating an exhaust leak. Replaced all the bolts , tick is gone!
