I looked inside tailgate today. I found the factory harness. What's interesting is that the power tailgate lock only uses 2 wires. The harness co.j g into tailgate has many more wires? Makes me think they must be for camera, what else would all those wires be for?

 

I'm thinking that it's prewired for it already. It's strange that you've got the "premium" 8.4 radio, but no backup camera on your trim level. It shouldn't be too hard to install the backup camera yourself. Once it's installed you'll have to have the stealership flash the truck to make it work or do it yourself with alfaodb.

 

That's what I am thinking and the mopar wire harness for camera has a split. 1 plug into body harness and 1 tail to lock and 1 round one to camera.
I am thinking about getting alfaobd app $49 and a obdlink mx+ $79
So I can change programming on my vehicle without dealer.
Just found out about alfa Obd on the other ram forum today..

I have a 2013 and am looking to do the same thing except I have the 5" screen. Did the parts you have listed above work?

 

I also have the 13 outdoorsman. I saw you got the alpha obd and these camera parts..... did this work for you? Was there anything additonal needed?

 

Anybody make this happen yet with just the split harness and camera? I too have a 13 outdoorsman with the 8.4 and no backup camera. I do have the harness, camera and tailgate handle sitting in my shop, but looking to verify before doing it. I do have alfaOBD as well.
