Last week towing my 35 ft 5th wheel on Hwy 385, 30 miles east of Greenville SC.. Lost all power.. had enough speed to pull the truck over on the side of the Road... 4.5 hrs later finally had a tow truck arrive... Chrysler would only pay for the truck to be towed... ended up using my Good Sams coverage... the truck is hard down waiting on parts... Dealer is waiting for a fuel tank with the pump preinstalled. If you're a RAM truck owner get in line for the recall service.. Chrysler is metering the parts out to the dealers, maybe one or two kits a month.
The dealer has been given a tentative date for parts 09/08/2022... The failure occurred 08/03.
thats a scam.... the intank pump can be replaced in less than 3 hours by removing the 4 bolts that hold the bed on... and thhe pump can be purchased cheap at any autoparts store... or online thru rockauto, and be there in 4 days... BUT, you mention the high pressure fuel pump, which is mounted on the diesel engines to supply the fuel rail... the intank pump is generally a 60psi LIFT pump, NOT a high pressure fuel pump...
do you have the diesel or gas engine?.....
the intank pumps on diesel trucks (which may be identical to the pumps for gas engines, but i dont know this) is a common failure, and if you plan on owning the truck awhile and towing heavy, your time and money will be better spent converting to an aftermarket fuel pump/polisher, like the FASS SYSTEMS pumps, which is an externally mounted unit and has a lifetime warranty.... no more worry about changing filters as often, easier to change when needed, MUCH cheaper filters, (2 filters mounted side by side, at about 12-15 dollars each).....and the pump runs continuously while the truck is running, filtering and delivering fuel to the HP fuel pump on the engine, and returning the excess clean, filtered fuel back into the tank... its a no brainer for those that EXPECT their truck to perform for them without OEM parts failing as they often do....
I did this 2 years ago to my rig, which tows heavy ALL the time, and I STILL have not had the need to change filters due to their size.....which can be bought with or without a manual drain cock on them....
the OEM intank lift pumps on diesel trucks WILL fail very shortly after the second time it sucks air due to being out of fuel... which i did purposefully to determine how far I could go after the warning light came on...it MAY continue to pump fuel at a low volume or pressure, which could allow you to get to a repair shop, BUT low pressure to the HP engine mounted pump will suffer greatly because of it.... i know these things because Ive been there, and did all my own troubleshooting and repairs, and asking questions and gleaning information from the aftermarket performance shops....
other than that, its not a bad system... until one starts talking about the emissions package....... good luck.
