so i got a 46re transmission from the salvage out of a 1996 dodge ram 5.2 v8, to replace my blown 42re from my truck, a 1998 ram with the 3.9 v6. the transmission will bolt up just fine, my concern is, will my computer recognize it and work fine, or will it need to be re-programmed to accept the 46re transmission?

Great question... and the answer is... DRUM ROLL PLEASE.... YES it will work... the V6 / V8 are similar because the V6 is a 318 with 2 cylinders lopped off... but what about valve bodies... are they in interchangeable... ANSWER is.... YES/NO or 100% maybe as the 42/44RE had a bigger suction hole then the 46RE… So forget about the TransGo seperator plate even though catalog says it will work... BUZZ INCORRECT... Sorry charlie

you can write me if you want other information as the TORQUECONVERTER will not work as the hub is smaller… however I made them in crossover styles meaning a converter that is great for a V6 and has right stall… offset lug or 90 degrees… I had diesel transmissions working on gas motors… you can make anything under the sun work… but it must be done right or you can end up with a horrible vibration and take out your main bearings

However will a 46 replace a 42 YES provided all the right peices are used... Wayne
