4wd auto vibration

If there is a thread on this already I apologize, I searched and couldn’t find anything. I have a 5th gen big horn crew cab with the 6’-4” box. I’ve only had it since June and only has 2,800 miles on it. It makes a very noticeable vibration that I can feel in the gas paddle and floor when I accelerate in 4wd auto. It does not do it in 2wd. And I still need to see if it does it when in 4wd high. The odd thing is that it does it even when I’m sure it’s not engaged in 4wd. But if I have 4wd auto on it always does it. I haven’t brought it in yet, thought I’d see if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks

I have had my 2019 for roughly 10 months & do not experience any "vibration" of any kind in 4 Wheel Drive Auto. There is little over 13K on the clock. It has been through the end of one winter & has started another with no problems. I would have it in & checked A.S.A.P.

My 2019 Longhorn has the identical issue. I am going in for service next Friday as well. This trucks seem to have a lot of low rpm harmonic vibration issues (1500-2000 rpms) from all the reading i have done. I dont have faith in a dealer/FCA fix either so will end up most likely solving it myself in the long run by adding additional mass dampers and using something like Spectrum Second Skin on the underside of the cab.

You should have no trouble with them as long as it's repeatable. If they try to tell you it's normal, have them take you out in a new truck from their lot and show them. It's not normal. I've been driving mine around in 4 auto for the last 3 weeks and I don't have any vibrations.

The guy I dropped my truck with texted me saying that another technician had a truck in for the same thing earlier this week. Ram told them that it’s normal and that any 4x4 mode is only for wet or low traction. Which is complete BS because there should be no issue driving your truck in 4wd auto all the time as it only engages when needed.

They are test driving mine now, and are going to compare it with another new truck off the lot and see if it feels the same. I’ll report back when I know more. I’m already fuming from the ears

Please be sure to keep us updated on your dealer's findings, finn5033. We are more than happy to provide you with extra support for that process if needed.

Well as expected dealer says there is nothing wrong with my truck and it drives the same as a new one on the lot. They put on my invoice that Chrysler says that Auto 4x4 is only to be used for slippery or rainy conditions. Which ticks me off because that has nothing to do with this issue. The wheel, gas pedal, and seat vibrate when accelerating on dry pavement or snow covered road. I never told them I drove it in 4wd auto all the time. It was in 2wd when I dropped it off this morning. And of course they had to make a comment about my A/T tires. They are pathfinder A/T’s which are not aggressive at all compared to most A/T tires. And again would have nothing to do with this.

And if this is normal and I’d known I wouldn’t have bought the truck. But who pops a truck in 4wd auto in June for a test drive?

I bought a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 put brand new Good Year Wranglers on it had vibration issues; after reading a bunch of forums on it-it helped me in finding a solution as all the trials and errors stopped me from having to do them> so I took my truck back to Belle Tire and told them I need high speed balancing as where I live my truck usually travels between 65 and 85 mph now when they first installed my tires they were inflated to 37psi when I left Belle Tire I took it to Chrysler dealer for an oil change one of them adjusted my inflation to 41psi and the vibration is all but gone. So my suggestion is simple have your tires high speed balanced then play with the psi until the vibration is gone...

I just wrote this in a reply but it's such a simple and easy fix and I appreciate all the forums that help guide to the solution for the higher speed vibration problems in the dodge ram pick-up. High speed balancing then play with the air pressure in the tires until the vibration goes away>I found 41psi worked for my truck>hope this helps. My Ford Escape had the same issue when I put new tires on it so I took it back to Discount Tires and told them most of my driving is freeway so they did a high speed balance problem was solved. No offence but I was happy so many others had the vibration issue> it let me know my new-used truck wasn't a lemon. I love a challenge I'm just happy the solution was fairly simple and inexpensive.

4 auto is 2wd until the wheel speed sensors detect the rear wheels turning faster than the front wheels (i.e. slipping) so there should be no difference in how the truck drives in 4 auto and 2wd under normal conditions. Now if its wet and you are getting the rear wheels to spin then I suppose the front wheels engaging could momentarily cause a vibration, but it shouldn't be there once the transfer case disengages the front driveshaft.

I know the 5th gen trucks use the Borg-Warner 48-11 transfer case and not the 44-44 that my 4th gen has, but as far as I am aware they both use a similar wet clutch design that is part of BW's Traction On Demand transfer case line. Ford uses them too, so you may want to see if their owners are reporting similar issues.

I have the same issue in my 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. 4 Auto vibration between 35-40 mph. More pronounced when going up hill. Also noticed a vibration in 4 High while turning into a drive through. Dealer has been in touch with tech support. They said because my truck has 20’s on it and not stock 22’s, they couldn’t comment on it. My dealer put 22’s on and I made the same thing happen. They checked everything. Everything is to spec. Fluids clean. No filings.
I read on the 5th Gen forum, one of the guys there is having his dealer replace the transfer case. The common thread I’ve seen is it’s trucks with 3.21 diff gears.
Tech support is no help.
We‘ve taken other trucks out on the lot. No issue. Yesterday dealer told me another truck came in with same complaint.
I’m calling FCA today to open a case.
On an $85,000 list price truck, this shouldn’t be happening. I’m not impressed!

Same issue. ‘19 Big Horn with 16k miles on it. At first I brought it in and they applied a TSB (08-083-20) that did nothing for the DTCM. Brought it back a week later and said it is just always doing it now. Only 4 auto. I didn’t try in just 4 high. I did get the comment about you really shouldn’t drive in 4 auto or 4 high unless the road is wet...but I really didn’t anyways. They did come back and say it was the front differential. They replaced and it’s been nice out so I’ve been in 2WD. Snowed today, ran to the store and of course, 35-45 mph....shudder shudder shudder.
Is the best course of action really to open a case with FCA? I agree, I did my homework and bought the Ram because of all of the positives and now this. Probably the most frustrating thing due to it’s essentially brand new.

Hi everybody. So no solution found?

i have 1500 Limited Night Edition 2020 and suffering now same issue with 48k km on speedo, 4wd auto vibration at 40-60 kmph (25-30 mph i guess) and not any issue with 2wd or 4wd high…

i’m from Estonia (Northern Europe) and local dealer said - need to update soft - did it today and seems be fine but late in the evening vibration came back, the same.. so i called dealer and now waiting what they will find to do with it. I have 2020 so it’s on warranty still. Sucks, cause i love this car and hoped it will be better then my previous X5 who was living in services 😂

so,any news and updates about issue?
