Sure sounds like it could be the heater core leaking is your antifreeze level down on fluid at all ?

Yep, that's the first place I'd be looking. It doesn't take much to create the smell and it's probably heating to the point of turning into steam, hence your windshield fogging up.

^^^^^ I agree, there is also a drain where the a/c condensation goes (bottom of firewall on pass side)
