Chrome vinyl wrap on a bumper

Has anyone tried this? My rear bumper has some rust spots, and I was wondering if this could be a cost effective way to cover them up. I know, I have to remove any remaining rust, but replacement bumpers are expensive (at least the ones I have priced). I have the bumper with the dual exhaust cutouts.

This is on a 2011 RAM 1500 Bighorn.

Thanks

I hear you Chrome wrap can be a budget-friendly workaround if the rust is handled right. Key thing is to grind down all rust treat it with rust converter, and apply a smooth primer before wrapping otherwise it will bubble up fast. I wrapped a rear bumper last summer it looked clean at first but skipped proper prep and had to redo it in 3 months prep is everything.

Vinyl wrap won’t hide rust bumps or flaking, but if you sand down the rust, treat the surface, and smooth it out, a good quality wrap can make it look sharp again and protect it from further weathering. If you do it right, the itasha car wrap will go on smoothly and last a good while, plus it’ll look 10x better than patchy rust or mismatched paint. Just don’t skip the rust removal, or you’ll have it bubbling back under the vinyl in no time. Since your bumper has the dual exhaust cutouts, wrapping it in something like carbon fiber or brushed steel can give it a mean sport-truck vibe without the full cost of replacement or paint.
