Hey guys, getting ready to do this swap on my 05 Ram,
All parts off a flood damaged hydralocked Eagle 5.7 out of a 2016 Charger RT, bought the whole motor with only 8500 miles for 600 bucks! Anyway I have a few of questions on swapping all of the top end onto my older 5.7 block, I have read alot on this but not alot of clear info, I will keep this up to date so maybe next guy can get a good parts list and it will be strapped on the dyno to get all tuned after, oh and I am doing cam swap of either custom 268 comp or go all out with the big SRT MAX cam at same time of top end swap. Along with other supporting mods such as 3k stall and trans shift kit.
1. First question, once I install heads using the thick .075 head gaskets for a reasonable ~11.1 comp do I need intake spacers to clear the engine casting over cam area?
2. Are there any easy ways to move my alternator and A/C compressor over enough to clear the front mounted throttle body without swapping to a car style timing chain cover or without spending $700 to buy the extended brackets from HHP
3. Do I need to run custom length push rods tailored to the thicker head gaskets or can I use stock Eagle push rods?
4. Would it be a huge restriction to use my square port long tube headers or does anyone make an adapter plate?
Thanks for any help

1. You may, only way you'll know for sure is when you test fit it.
2. No, Have t have the machined timing cover and associated brackets to move the alternator and AC compressor out of the way of the TB. Also, have you already converted to an electric fan or do you still have your clutch fan? You'll need to ditch the clutch fan if you intend to use the eagle intake. This is why the newer 4th gen rams have the weird 90° elbow on those manifolds.
3. Pretty sure you will need to measure for pushrod length.
4. Never seen an adapter plate, though I have heard of people running the older style headers on the newer heads with no ill effects (don't quote me on that though).

I did this swap several years ago.
1. I didn't need any additional spacers to run the 6.1L manifold besides the factory 6.1L intake manifold gasket.
2. Your only options are to get the complete front timing cover and accessories from a pre-vvt car and run them, or you will need to get the the machined timing cover and brackets from HHP. The LX car's alternator can interfere with the passenger side frame rail though so you're no further ahead than just using the HHP timing cover.
3. I ran the VVT block pushrods just fine with a thicker gasket that brought my compression ratio to 10.9. You'll need to pay attention when you install and drive it if there's any valvetrain chatter and if so then you'll need to go with custom pushrods but it's rare to need to.
4. No adapter plated but I actually took a pencil grinder to the ports of my pre-Eagle ARH headers and did a rough port match, they have enough metal in the flange to do it but it's possible to go too far. Others have run them without the port match but it's not ideal as there is a good lip from the header flange.

Man thank you guys for shinning some light on this swap, I just dropped off my heads to have them cleaned and gone through as well as alot of port work done to exhaust side and alil on the intake side as the eagle heads are not a good intake to exhaust ratio since they were built around the vvt cam. Anyways I did get a great lead on a machine shop that specializes in billit accessorie for LS engine front pulleys and brackets just a few hours from me and they would like to help out and build me custom brackets to off set the alternator and ac. With all that being said if all goes well they will have the design ready to make more brackets... but I'm months from pulling the motor to take it to them with heads on and intake mounted.
And I wondered if I could just run the stock Eagle intake and exhaust pushrods, since I will have my motor out anyway I'm having my machine shop that's doing my heads degree my cam in I'll have him check push rod length to make sure stock will work or if I do need custom lengh. Still haven't made a cam choice yet but leaning heavy on the HHP custom comp 268 since my trucks a fat pig, but would love to have the srt max choppy lope, any input on cam selection for a 2wd quad cab, I'll have 3k stall shortly after I recoup money from this motor build up

Oh and yes I just got an electric fan, just gotta get a good controller and install that, and on my eagle heads I forgot to add this weekend I'll be bringing machine shop a set of exhaust gaskets to see if they have enough material to slightly message the opening to the square port to better flow into my headers that are already port matched to square port exhaust gaskets
