I have just replaced the lenses on my 1995 Ram 1500. Looked easy, not so easy. Anyway, the lenses came with the standard 45/65w bulb (halogen?). I would like a little more oomff. What would be a good replacement with more light and a good manufacturer? The full part was Au-lite HB1 9004 DOT 12v 45/65 L1LE. I prefer the same color of light I have now. Will a higher wattage be too much for the fuse that is installed for the lighting?

I’m going to suggest that younhead to WalMart or your local auto parts store and check out the different versions of the 9004 type bulbs. The major brands i.e. Sylvania, Phillips etc. will have 9004 bulbs with two or three different “output” levels. The caveat will be that the “brighter” bulbs (of the halogen type) will not last as long. If you saw the original Blade Runner movie, you may recall Tyrell saying “ the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long- and you have burned so very, very brightly Roy”. Bottom line, there will be some degree of “expense” be it cost, power consumption, longevity or even potential system damage.

But no, to answer part of your question, it will not draw more amperage than the stock bulb. Not significantly anyway. Brighter bulbs just have thinner filaments, resulting in greater heating, hotter running, more light, and therefore shorter life.
