heated mirrors

What triggers the heated mirrors (being heated?) Is it the turning on of the heater? defrost setting? I get the feeling they aren't always just 'on', and they seem a lot less responsive than the heated mirrors in my Tundra. So I want to know if there is something I should be doing to get a better response before winter comes.

** oh, truck is 1500 Big Horn trim level, if that means anything.

I believe the rear window defroster triggers the heated mirrors.......

This....even if the truck does not have the rear window defroster, the rear defroster button is what turns on the heated mirrors.

Also, if you have it set, I believe they will come on automatically if the truck is remote started and outside temp is under 41F.

No problem.

They actually work pretty well IMHO. My drivers one didnt heat very evently but a visit to the dealer got a replacement glass portion and it worked fine after that.

There's an actual button to turn them on. The Defrost button is on the right side of the control panel, the rectangle with wavy lines in it.
