Search echomaster. For under 300 and 2-3 hours of your time you will have factory type backup cam in your radio screen. Its all in this thread. Losing your mirror functions is not an option. Dealers seem clueless.

I got a Brandmotion 1009-6503 backup camera and it works fine, and easy enough to install. This one also is under $300. Comes with the wiring harness to run from the tailgate to the front. Only a couple wires to hook up in the front to.

Echomaster Kit

Just a update. I finally got mine fixed. After the dealer was unsure whether the software "XAC", I went to l inch and the blue screen popped in reverse saying "Check entire surroundings". However, no camera. So I concede for the day. I got up this morning and started at the rear for connections. One watchout, there was a small green wire that looked severed so hooked them together then went to the splicers I used for the positive and negative. I ended up soldering in as I should have in the first place. Bingo, the camera came up but no lines. I then went to the back and unhooked the small green wire and then the lines showed up
So all is well.

Great New HESM70. I am very glad it worked out. The splices can be tricky. But again, congratulations on a job well done. Enjoy your cam. I backed up the drive way last night and a friends driveway this AM using the Cam.

I bought a new 2013 Dodge Bighorn about 4 weeks ago, have been looking at getting a back-up camera installed. As noted here, dealers are unable to provide any assistance, as the VIN of the vehicle doesn't list it as compatible with back-up camera, despite the 8.4A display being clearly able to interface with it.
In looking on-line, I found a number of after-market groups who claim to have the answer and the cure for us; wondering if anyone here has tried 1 of these?

LockPick: http://www.coastaletech.com/lockpickc8v2.htm
Nav-TV: http://navtv.com/product/174/allgig-xg-hs.html?forceShowProduct=1
DrivenAudio: http://www.drivenaudio.ca/2013/dodge-ram-uconnect-upgrades-navigation-backup-camera-and-more/

Each of these shows connection of a rear camera, integrated automatically with shift into reverse, also adding capability for front camera (night vision or other) and internal A/V input for display of videos.
They are all quite expensive, but appear that they would interface directly.

Just looking to see if another brave soul has treaded the path before me; don't want to put a bunch of $ & time headed somewhere I can't easily come back from...

Lockpick hasn't released a system that will work with the 2013 or newer yet. They keep saying next month but they have been saying that for at least 6 months now.

Nav-Tv is REALLY expensive.

I think DrivenAudio is a Canadian install company. Any time you have someone else do this type of work it will be really expensive.

As of right now there is no Plug and Play solution for the 2013 or newer Rams. All current cameras require some kind of wire splicing or soldering.

I haven't bought a camera yet but looking over the instructions from Brand Motion, they seem to be the easiest and less invasive of the bunch. Again, I can't speak from personal experience but just going with what I have read.

Personally, I will be waiting for one that is Plug and Play, has A/V capabilities for video, and has a second connection for a front camera set up. I may be waiting a while but I am a little gun shy of hacking wires on a new truck.

Just my 2 cents...

Well my story is a little different - I bought the Crux device because I couldn't get the dealership to figure out the sales code for the rear camera despite showing/talking to them about several others doing this on the board. I even provide the sales code and the method.

So I get the Crux device in and I've also just installed a set of cooled/heated seats and a 32 gallon gas tank. I provide the sales code for those items, but that's a district level issue and they do it no problem :) Sweet

However they also turned on the rear camera sales code and my perfectly working Crux setup went blue. So I just wired a second RCA plug to the 31/32 holes on the radio switch harness plug...bingo, it's all working again.

So now I have both the option of the factory wiring or should they remove that code, the Crux device - it's identical in function and features.

I still like the Crux device because I can key in a nav address while moving...or use any other device in motion.

So why say all that - you can literally just have the sales code added and install any camera to the 31/32 plugs on the radio harness. I didn't use a relay, I just wired it like the factory diagram shows.

While you can buy a tailgate handle withe the aftermarket cam hole already cut for $199 - you can literally just buy a $20 camera and cut the hole...the hole saw normally comes with the camera.

RobD70 - thanks again for the link to your camera install - helped a lot. Not sure of the need for the relay, but perhaps is to toggle the power on/off instead of keeping it on all the time. I wired the power to the Crux camera power, but I suspect anyone can add a camera and just power from the rear tail lights to avoid any issues? In any event, it's just what I need to fix the issue for my situation.

Navtool does not have a solution for the 2013/14 models

The Echomaster only needs a power source. No other splicing is needed. It is plug and play to the head unit. It is very easily powered off from the 12V receptacle.

NAVTV will have the best overall integration solution. It will do everything with no dealer programming. It is avail for the 5.0 Jeeps right now. Nav TV reprograms all the buttons, front cam, rear cam, TV, DVD it is really cool. It will be over $1200 with Nav. It is currently available only for the 8.4 and 5.0 jeeps. It has not been tested on the RAM 5.0 yet but they said it will be released at some point.

You cannot find this on their site easily. Here is a link. Just look at what it can do to the 5.0 system.

I will wait for the Fiat TomTom for the 5.0 and with the already installed Echomaster, I should have all I ever wanted in the Ram.

But this Nav-TV solution looks pretty good.

The Crux solution is plug and play and does not require the dealer program update. I paid $399 and it's a little pricey, but I couldn't get the dealership to solve my sales code update.

GW55, people on here have been trying everything to find out how we can get the OEM cam installed in our trucks with no luck....but if I read correctly, you just walked into a dealer and had it done?? Seriously? If this is the case, how did you manage this? Do you have any further details for us?

Thanks...

I did most of the work myself. Bought the oem camera, y harness, and new tailgate handle from my dodge dealer. Got a set of custom made harness that plug into the factory connectors, ( one at the tailgate, up to the bottom of the cab, then from behind the parking break pedal to the connector at the rear of the 8.4 display. then went to the dealer to have the option flashed. Works perfect.

Dealers seem to be saying the camera is not yet available. I've tried and they can't find it. Do you have the part numbers? Did your dealer have any trouble getting their hands on the parts?
He about the harnesses, where were you ale to get those?

56038978AF, Camera, list $215
68189124AB, Wiring Tailgate, list $35.20
68197873AA, Handle tailgate, list 71.25

When I ordered these there was a back-order of about a week. Picked them up from the dealer Sept. 27th. I have heard that they have been a bit of a delay some times getting the cameras.

The other two wire harness's were bought from an individual who worked hard to get the parts (pins) to interface to the oem connectors on the vehicle. This is with the locking tailgate and Uconnect 8.4A or 8.4AN already on the truck..

Nburd, nice work and great documentation! I'm going to purchase a camera too and install it. Hopefully my dealer will be nice and give me the flash for free too:)
Best of luck. I use mine every day. I understand the dealer may get a "camera not found error" after the flash. Just tell them to ignore it. If you run unto issues, pm me for my dealer name and number.

So far only one person got a bad camera, and the seller sent them a new one. I do not know if it was related to install or actually defective.

I used the cam for parallel parking today for the first time. It worked like a charm, I was 10" away fom they guy in back of me. I need a front one too! I was about 10" out of square with the curb.

Parkview backup camera

There is not a kit. If you read the thread, you will see that you have to order the individual parts. I even posted a pdf with all of the information.

Jeepguy - have been following through all the posts, and attempting to sort out the various part numbers required to create my own harness & install the OEM backup camera. I know you had created another forum where you tracked your install, and have also posted a lot of info in the forum started by Bigolyt, but I still can't seem to find what I need. The PDF mentioned above, any of the images you uploaded - I can't see any of these. Are they in a section of the forum reserved for those who are paid subscribers, or something?
I have the part numbers for the factory harnesses, camera, tailgate handle, etc. Need to know the p/n for the pins that you had to crimp onto the connectors for connection the radio. I read through this all a couple of weeks ago, and figured I'd just come back to it - can't do it. Would really like to follow your lead in getting the OEM backup camera installed, any info you could provide (again) would be very much appreciated. I plan to share it with someone who works at the local Dodge dealer - as they can't seem to figure out how to do this themselves. Sad...
Thanks, for all you've done!
