You will need to have the dealer flash the option....

As noted on my earlier posts, you need to have the dealer flash the option to your radio and vehicle computer (the radio is the computer in your vehicle). It takes about 30 minutes. They log into the Web, put in your VIN number and add the backup camera option code to your vehicle and it is flashed like a software update. It tells the built in computer that the camera/screen should turn on when the vehicle is in reverse and the menu options work.

You have to do this, it cannot be activated and the camera will not work until the dealer programs it.

The option code to be flashed is: option XAC Park View Backup Camera

I had it done before installation, as recommended in the instructions. So for a few days, I had a blue screen on my display when the truck was in Reverse.

Just talked to my dealer to have the my 8.4a radio flashed for the rear view camera, he said it will cost $599.00 to flash the radio, gave me some line on how they have to remove the radio and sent it out to be flashed and would have my truck for two weeks or more. Then tells me they can do a rear view mirror install and have the truck back to me in the same day for $799.00. Anybody have this flash done at the dealership and how much did you pay?

You need to find a new dealer. It is 30 minutes. They just add the option to the computer software and flash your truck. I was quoted 96.00 and the dealer did it for free as it was pretty easy.

This kind of pi**es me off how dishonest some dealers are. They lie, cheat and steal to take advantage of folks who paid thousands of dollars for a vehicle from them.

The radio does not have to come out. They connect a cable and flash it.

If I were you, I would call Chrysler and complain about this event. They need to know what their dealers are doing.

I just had mine done last week as I am putting in a aftermarket backup camera. It took them 15-20 minutes to do. It was 69.95, like 73 with tax. Did the trick as any time I shift into reverse, the screen goes blank, looking for the camera and says to check all surroundings. I would go and talk to the owner of that dealer and also Dodge's customer service. That's pretty bad to try pulling that on a customer. I will have my camera in tomorrow, provided it don't rain.

I got mine almost installed today. I had to go buy a RCA extension cable as the one that came with mine ended by the brake pedal. I will finish it in the morning. Mine was flashed at the dealer about a week and a half ago. This is actually fairly easy to do. Just a little disappointed about the extension cable, especially since I had asked if I needed anything else.

If you have your truck flashed for the camera. Do you have to add the pins in the connector? Or just install RCA from the new aftermarket camera. Cause I've installed a camera in the tailgate handle. But I am having a hard time finding a place to install a secondary monitor. Would be great if I could use the Uconnect 5.0 as the monitor instead.

Well, mine is a 8.4a, so I assume there is some differences, but don't know that for sure. I did get it all hooked up today and it does work. This one is a Brandmotion camera for the 2009 and up. It is a oem type. The harness that runs to the front has a rca plug and 3 wires. 2 wires get spliced together with a wire in a block near the emergency brake pedal, and one is a ground wire. Then the rca has a jumper that plugs into it, with 2 wires coming out of it. The 2 wires get plugged into 2 different open spots on a block on the back of the radio/display. It wasn't bad at all to put in and Im glad it works. I should have taken pictures as I went to share, but I didn't think about it until I was almost done.

The only way that it could cost $599 would be if you have the 8.4a RA3 radio & they were going to be activating the Navigation
a smart phone or tablet works better for navigation

adding Navigation has nothing to do with the Parkview camera being flashed
Flashing in software should only cost between $50 - $100

either your dealership is misunderstanding you, is Not listening to you, or out to empty your wallet

pulling your own radio is not at all hard, but i don't believe the Ram will run without the 8.4 radio, because of the electronic interface

see this radio removal video, the 8.4 should be almost the same

RobD70 - thanks, great write up.

Shouldn't you power the camera off the rear brake light? If you use the accessory power, the cam is powered all the time v. switched on when in use. Given the work you've done, I suspect you can tap in the brake wire almost anywhere in the back coming out of the lights. Apologize if I'm missing something that switches the cam off.

Zixxer,

There is a black colored block of wires just to the right of the emergency brake pedal, under the dash. My directions had me splice with a wire in that block. I honestly don't know what that wire goes to. One wire on supplied harness is for reverse (green) and the other shows ignition (black). Those 2 are spliced together with the wire in the black wiring block. I can get you a link to the manufacturer website and directions if you like. Just pm if interested and I will get it to you.

My airbag light came on so I went to the dealer to have that taken care of, which they did. They also told me there was a code for the radio, but I have no problems with my radio/display. They said more than likely that code was from the computer seeing the camera and couldn't recognize it as a factory installed one. It all works fine so they said not a big deal.

Help! Parkview addition of XAC Option

Ok, so I hooked the Echo parkview camera up and took the truck to the dealer this morning. After about a half hour, they came back and said that the truck was not seeing the "XAC" package as ordered through "dealerconnect". The technician said he was also getting a "lost connection to camera" code.

The service technician told me to come back after lunch and see if the systems had replicated so that it showed up as a option to put on my truck. Any ideas?

It seems like the software "XAC" option is still not loaded so before I try to figure out if there is a bad connection, I should make sure the software is loaded.

only way to disconnect Uconnect?

I just gout a 2013 1500 Ram from the dealership but it didn't come with the backup camera; but I was told one ould be installed. great! So I bought the truck and now they're telling me the only way to installed the camera is to disconnect the Uconnect feature because the microphone is in the rearview mirror but there isn't one in the new camera mirror. Is this the only way to get a backup camera besides installing one with another monitor?

No, it is not the only way. Have them flash the code for the backup camera. I got one and installed it. It works fine and was not hard to install at all. Sending a pm with a link to what I got.
