But then the modern PW would laugh at your off road capabilities in places like Moab. There is a trade off in everything. That said, I have never experienced anything like the OP when my PW was loaded up with a big X2 ATV or building construction materials??

Your average wood hauling pickup aint doing this:

So how many times have you been to Moab Mystro? I am only a 2.5 hr drive away from Moab. Not only have I run just about all the trails many many times but I have organized and led groups there. You are F'n kidding yourself if you think the PW has some huge advantage over the rest. That guy in the pic was likely shittinga brick because you can't see over the obnoxious hood. It isn't near the off road vehicle it is made out to be. I have tried it and it has failed me repeatedly, just like it did when I tried to use it as a truck.

Glad you just love yours but unfortunately, I have had better, much better. I thought the PW would be a good dual purpose machine. I was wrong, it sucks at everything I have tried to use it for. It's BEST feature is its fuel economy for tis size. Otherwise it is an epic fail for the money it cost.

i hate hearing this esp for the price of these beasts. any mods you plan on doing to make it a better vehicle for your needs?

Where shall I begin...1) I've owned a Polaris X2 and it ain't that heavy, no where near, not even close to what either loaded truck pictured with firewood on it is hauling. 2) I wouldn't spend upwards of $40-50+ Grand on any vehicle and try to climb a cliff, much less take it to Moab. 3) My old $2,000 F150 had a rear mini spool, manual trans. w/300 I6 is a much better off road truck than any PW especially if I put $40,000 into it! Plus I wouldn't whine when I dented it!!
4) My main point was that the current PW has an, imo, oversized Diesel rear axle (ie boat anchor) fooling people that it will haul more weight, while having soft coil springs for more flex off road, all the while being built on a heavy HD 2500 frame. On top of that the truck is huge by any off road standard. By the same token, my 2500 is even larger with the longbed, has leaf springs, larger tires than a stock PW, winch, front and rear LSD's, and costs half the price. I like the PW but I can and have done better.

I thought the idea behind the Power Wagon was that it could do both, haul your load and go off road better than any full size truck has a right too. I think up until a few years ago they were mostly that. If off road was my priority I wouldn't use the PW, it is way to big and heavy. Factor in the intrusive electronics and it is pretty compromised off road. Jeep Rubicon, Mercedes G-Class, the right Toyota Land Cruiser are all better off road choices bone stock. If modifying your rig is your bag you can build a Prius into a better off roader with a PW budget.

Obviously the whole thread started when I found out it can't handle more than half a load of firewood. So it isn't any good at hauling like a truck should be able to haul. Factor in the electronic nannies in the winter that make the truck just plain dangerous and I am done. No point in trying to modify it. If it had a manual trans maybe but, I hate the automatic, hate hate hate it. I am going to sell it. One last road trip this summer then it goes on the block.

If you like the idea of the PW, have you thought of getting one a few years older? I have an '11, leaf springs and very few electric nannies (thank god!). Seems the rear coils have been the biggest detractor to the truck. I can easily carry the load of firewood you described with no issues, and never any issues winter driving. I did add airbags, not because of the hauling capacity, more so I find myself towing 12k semi regularly and the tongue weight can climb up to 2500 pretty easily.

Ya a simple $300 air bag kit would solve virtually all of the PW's load/towing issues. People have to understand you can't put massive hard to compress springs back there and expect it to be off-road capable.

I honestly think some people are naive if they thought a PW would off-road just as well as a Rubicon Wrangler that weighs 3K pounds less and is basically a one-trick pony. The wrangler is horrid on the highway. It's honestly an achievement for a truck as large as it to off-road as well as it does, with a great interior, quiet, good highway manners and decent fuel economy.

Well it was able to haul a lot more before the suspension redesign. Lots of older PW owners will testify to that. How much did they gain by making the springs that soft? They also reduced articulation over the leaf spring models. Seems like the whole thing took the truck a couple of steps backwards. Their marketing would lead you to believe the opposite is true.

Who ever said it was expected to be a Rubicon? Not me. I owned a new '07 Rubi Unlimited and found to be fine on the highway, even with a soft top. That rig went on lots of long trips with no problem.

So for me the promise was there... the delivery not so much. I understand that most people who buy these trucks have MUCH lower expectations for them than I must have.

Never been to Moab but live on a mountain in Central Pa. We have our own versions of similar obstacles but with loose dirt, logs, swamps, etc.. Why does every off road test have the PW #1 since it was reintroduced? It's literally in its own league of off road trucks. As far as off road trucks, what else even has front/rear lockers, disconnect sway bars with this much suspension articulation just to name a few qualities?
Coming from a older highly optioned 2500 Ram, the PW is in another off road league. I have put mine through its off road test compared to every other truck or Jeep I have owned on my own land filled with obstacles I drive all my ribs on and it's no contest.
You obviously don't like your truck and have been very vocal about it over several posts over months. Sell it and get something that makes you happy.

No one seems to be having any issues with their PW at Moab in these videos?

agreed, I'm new to this place so I've just been doing some reading. It's very clear this guy has a hate on for his truck and thinks he's doing the world a favour by informing everyone how awful power wagons are. Public service announcement? seriously? all I can say for sure is someone very biased against power wagons is telling people they almost died hauling a legal load and doing nothing else wrong and nobody else has had the same problem. just sayin'...

Hmm, I do quite a bit of off-roading and don't think the PW is nearly as bad off as you make it on this forum. When anyone mentions their off-roading, you always come back with "I do the most baddest off-roading in the world and your off-roading cannot compare" retort.

It's a bit tired. Reduced articulation by going with the rear coils vs leafs? What is your source? One thing for sure we do know is the rear coils have made the truck ride much better on ALL surfaces.

I had a '09 Rubicon Unlimited. What a stinker on the highway. My PW destroys the Rubicon Unlimited on a highway trip in about every way conceivable.

Tell me what it is really great at then... It is REALLY BIG, can't see over the hood, you NEED a spotter for most technical sections (because you can't see over the hood). For 99% of people, they will get just as far in a regular 2500 model, I did before the PW. The electronics wont let you two foot it like you need to in technical sections. The redesigned front suspension is way to low etc etc.

I live right where there are tons of Jeep trails, and I live close to Moab. I have been running the trails for decades. I am sorry of my actual experiences off road offend you.

My source? I took it out and flexed it as far as it would go. When you see a similar pic of a leaf truck, it clearly has more articulation. I thought you did quite a bit of off roading yourself? Here it is, max extention, tire hanging in the air on one side and fully compressed on the other.

Sure the big truck is better on the highway. I never thought the Jeep was that bad though. Of course, I would never buy another one...

Timbren and E rated tires if you need better payload. What I did and have zero issues hauling a ton of feed all the time.
Agreed! I've used Timbren rubber bump stops on my Nissan Xterra and it changed the hauling capabilities completely around to the good. Before the bump stops the Xterra's front end would point to the sky with an UNloaded 3,000lb trailer no lie! I would show U but I traded the Xterra for the 2500. Check out Timbren!

There is the E rated tire myth again... The stock tires are rated to carry 3195 lbs each, almost 6400 lbs on the rear axle. That would be ~3000 lbs of load. Until you exceed that number the tires are fine.

And why didn't you include a pic of a stock leaf spring power wagon to show this massive increase in rear articulation?

And no, I don't need a spotter for most technical sections. That is what my forward camera is for. I've been to Moab, and somehow you think there aren't other places in the country to off-road than where you live. :4-looney:

Your self proclaimed best off-roader experience doesn't "offend me" (whatever that means), but you claiming to be so much better at off-roading than a bunch of people you don't know and that your word is the final word on all things off-roading and the Power Wagon is quite entertaining.

I seriously suggest you sell the truck and get an older one, or something different altogether. Or will we hear more constant whining over the next few years as you keep something you hate so much? :4-dontknow:

I figured you could find one, you clearly have a computer... do I need to hold your hand through ALL of this?

Where did I EVER say there were not other experienced off roaders or that there are not other places to do so? I responded to a guy who posted up a pic of someone elses truck in a place I doubt he has been. Try to keep up here...

And what fun would the internet be if it wasn't entertaining? How is mine the "final word" if the whole world is free to respond to it? Clearly it is bothering you... LOL

I stated that it was going on the block in a few weeks. If I can't sell it for what I owe I will find something to trade it on and take the financial hit. YES, I am done with this POS and soon you wont have to worry about reading my posts. If I could have just returned it like a shirt from Wal Mart I would have already long ago done just that. It is a vehicle and it is EXPENSIVE to unload one so young. I'll tell you what, you send me $5000 and I will do it tomorrow.

You probably will continue to see complaints about this truck until I am able to divest myself of it. Just like this thread, it is YOUR CHOICE to read or not read my posts. Sure seems like you enjoy responding though...

you say you had a wrangler so i know you know how to mod a jeep. any way it would be cheaper to mod your truck to get it to be the truck you want? seems like 5 grand should get you there.
