Hello everyone, been out of the pickup/Ram world for too long. I now have a project/ farm truck now.

I purchased a 97 5.2 V8 4x4 running and driving for a steal as long as nothing major pops up soon. Has 230XXX miles on it. I have zero knowledge of previous service or oil used in it. What did dodge call for? And my plan was to just use conventional oil and keep the changes at 2,500 or 6 months what ever is first since I doubt this will see 3000 miles a year. Thoughts? I'm happy to be back and working on a truck again ! :smiley_thumbs_up:

Nice project truck, those are a solid trucks. My son has the same mileage on his 97 5.2l , great running engine. We run 10w30 as per the factory calls for and we use Castor Oil synthetic blend with a wix filter. His trans went out at 170,000 so we had it rebuilt and it's still going strong.
Nice that's good to hear. Alot people under estimate these trucks. Thanks I'm planning a 10w30 oil weight and a good filter and praying lol.

When winter comes around I'll prob switch to 5w30. Here is jersey it hasn't gotten below 70 for weeks it feels like now. I'm planning valvoline maxlife with a k&n filter. Should be more than optimal for the low mileage the truck will be seeing. I've never had anything bad to say with k&n filters. It was between that or mobile 1 based on my local auto parts store.

The temp seems to run just passed the 200 degree mark on the gauge but never going further or towards the red. I hoping a new thermostat and coolant provides alittle better cooling.

Guy thought the alternator was bad but it runs with a jump,.doesnt turn off and even turns back on after it runs alittle. The battery is just shot. Yay for me.

The A.C. works but doesn't come out the front vents. Only the window defroster. Im.thining vacuum line somewhere. My previous 2nd gen had same issue with the vacuum lines. Driving and it would stsrt blow random ambient air at me through the vents.
