You Guys with RAMBOXES..any regrets?

Hi guys,

Just ordered a sport reg cab with ram boxes. I was on fence with the rambox, but decided to go with it thinking they would be handy especially for extra storage on a reg cab. Plus you get the 8 foot bed extender/divider. The only real time I use the truck bed space over the wheel wells is when I load it up with brush. I just hope I don't regret loosing that space & would like to hear from you guys who have the rambox & how you like it. What also concerns me is I don't see too many of them out there & how they will be viewed for resale. Maybe because they are relatively new & costly?

I couldn't decide on getting them or not myself. My deal was I was used to the 6'-4" box and since I got a crew cab I went with the short box so I was already losing that space. I really wanted the ram boxes but the short box plus the ramboxes would have left me a very small bed area. I think you were smart to get them with the reg cab. I bet they will come in very handy for you

I asked about leakage because that was a concern for me & was told there are no issues with that. They seem to be sealed well similar to a trunk so I would be surprised if they leaked. If your referring to the black portion on top for fading & warping, I would expect it to fade but not warp. However, these are so new it's hard to tell.

I ordered an R/T (4x2, regular cab, Sport) with Ramboxes on the last day of February. Took delivery on 3 May. I have only seen one other R/T in the RAM inventory search feature with the Rambox option after looking for about 3 months. My truck is only used as a weekend grocery getter. I really like them so far. The day I picked up the truck I was worried because they had about two inches of water in the bottom of each of them and I thought they leaked. I had to pull the drain plugs and dry them out. Since then, i have been in some heavy rain and washed the truck with the garden hose and nozzel. They have stayed completley dry. Not a drop. I think the knuckleheads that prepared the vehicle were overzealous and opend them and washed them prior to delivery. I keep tools, guns and "stuff" on the passenger side and the driver's side stays empty and is great for throwing a jacket or groceries.

I really like the bed extender used in the role of a partition in the box. No more having things slide way forward towards the cab. Always easy to reach. I dont use the bed much except for lawn clippings and minor Lowes runs. For me, the box space remaining is more than sufficient.

If you are a buisness owner, there is a special $500 rebate towards the price of the Rambox option. Check out this link. This is not well known. (2 pages)

Overall, I'm very happy with the decision to add the Rambox option to my R/T.

Thanks much! That's exactly the type of input I'm looking for!

They are wider then just the wheel wells. I don't think you can fit a 4' wide sheet of plywood between them. That was the deal killer for me because I needed the extra width for RC planes for my son and I. If they were exactly the width of the wheel wells I would have got them.

I had them on my 09 and have missed them ever since. One of the most useful things I ever had on a truck and the bed loss wasn't major and in a reg can it gives you a lot of extra room. Mine were in a crew short bed and I could stuff a ton of things in them.

I ordered my 2013 with the Ram Boxes and love the completely. I hunt a fish so I made my own "Ram Holster" for mine, it holds either two rifles or four fishing rods. I have also installed a Retrax Pro tonneau cover on it. The Retrax uses the tie-down rails to hold it onto the truck..

Lots of advantages to having the RamBoxes. Very few disadvantages. I, like others, keep tools, trailer hitch, tow strap etc. in the passenger side. Drivers side I keep empty except for an umbrella. I put guns, jackets, things I don't want in the cab but might fly out or get stolen in the bed. Some people have said that they don't think they are secure enough to leave valuables. I figure that it is at least as hard to pry them open as it is to smash a window and no one can look in to see if there is anything valuable in them they way they can if you leave something in the cab. They have drains so they work pretty well as ice chests and I have never had mine leak. You also get the bed extender divider and the tie down rails with adjustable tie down points. That feature right there is pretty awesome and I have used the rails quite a bit. Only down side is the cost and the fact that you lose a little room in front of and behind the wheel wells. About the only thing I have ever used that space for that I couldn't do with a Ram Box is a 5 gallon gas can. I say get them they are Bad*ss! I have even had people stop and want to come look at them to find out more about them.

Absolutely love mine. Just picked up a travel trailer and one side is dedicated to chocks, stabilizer blocks, etc. Nothing stored inside the cab, no getting up in the bed because that item you needed slid to the middle of the cross bed toolbox. Routinely even put groceries in them, no sliding, no items rolling out of bags, etc. Can't wait to put them to use in hunting season.

I just couldn't get past the aesthetics of them. Just don't like the way they look. I also don't want to lose the bed space.
Having said that, I'm glad Ram offers them. It's great for the guys that want/need them to have that option.

Ahh this^^^ most definitely. I think they take away from the looks and I also need the traditional regular bed space for my stuff. We use those types of storage boxes at my job and they inevitably always ended up getting moisture inside them and by the time you get back into it...you now got a mess. All that being said, iy came down to ram box or air suspension and I loved the air suspension

I ordered one with ram boxes

No one around seemed to know the exact dimensions on it and no dealers nearby had one with them, then a local dealer did so I checked it out while I was waiting on my ordered truck to be built

Unfortunately I had to cancel my truck order because neither one of my atvs would have fit in the bed and a truck to me is useless if I can't throw one back there

Ended up with about the same truck minus ram boxes in the end

I use my truck for work which really only involves a few job site visits but most of the time it is a road only driver. I keep some personal safety gear like hard hats, work shoes, measuring wheel, booster cables, safety gear, washer fluid etc, etc, etc, etc,.
I came from a Honda Ridgeline with trunk in the bed (where I stored all of this stuff) and like my Ram the in cab area was filled with subwoofer etc. They don't leak (make sure to close them tight) and my friend had a 2009 with Ram box and when he ordered his 2014 with 6'4" box he ordered it with the Rambox option. The 6'4" rambox are larger than my 5'7" rambox. One of the reasons he stayed with Ram was because he loved the rambox so much even though he had a lot of problems with the truck.

If I remember correctly, the 2009-2011 boxes had a warp/leak issue and a new part was issued to fix it. I haven't heard of anything since then. As for the fading, the bed rail material on top is the same as the rest of the bed rails. It's hard to protect plastic from UV fade for a long time without paint. It all fades eventually without protectant of some sort.

I love my Ramboxes. For those looking for specific measurements in terms of bed width left with the Ramboxes, I took my tape out.

It is exactly 50 inches large.

I was measuring not from the inside of one of the notches (the notches for the bed divider), but really from one raised notch to another raised notch.
So any plywood sheet willl fit easily and a good number of ATVs too.

I was myself worried about the lost bed space, but when you think hard about it, the space you are losing is in front and back of the wheel wells. I can't say I've been using that much this space in a pickup truck. I mean, if the stuff you want to haul cannot even clear the wheel wells, chances are that even if you don't have Ramboxes, the added bed space won't do you any good.

Rain and water do not get in them. Tested in torrential rains, as well as in an automatic car wash. They are lockable with remote and illuminated.

It's so convenient to drop tools, clothes, errands, fishing gear, hunting gear in there instead of having them roll all over inside a dirty bed. How many guys end up having to buy expensive stainless steel boxes for this purpose that take up even more space out of the bed than Ramboxes do? Or cram the back row seats in the cabin with all sorts of stuff?

For the tonneau cover, I simply ordered the tri-fold Mopar tonneau cover from the factory. I'm finding out a retractable would probably have been more useful to me but no complaints about the factory tonneau cover. Good quality, and does the job as intended.
