Hey Guys and Gals......I'm about to pull the trigger on a ram 1500 sport 4x4 crew cab in black. I've got a lot of options added, but I'm having a really hard time deciding on the rambox or not. I know it's ultimately up to me and my lifestyle but I'd love your opinions....

Pros
-Great storage in possibly underutlized area of the bed anyway
-storage for wet dirty boots, hunting gear, etc....that keeps it out of the cab
-Looks pretty cool in my opinion (but may not really "belong" on a black sport)
-Won't be putting a cap on so no worries there

Cons
-First impression with it on a crew cab was the bed is SMALL, but still plenty big for me with the bed extender (i think)
-hopefully we can walk on them at times??
-possily hard to reach items from the side of the bed as they are pretty thick
-possible warping (especially on black truck??)
-Biggest concern.....scratching the side of the truck when putting stuff in and out (ratchet straps, fold up chairs, a kid getting a soda out and dropping it on the side of the truck....etc). I plan on having this truck for at least 5 years, so plenty of time for dumb undeserved scratches.

I'm leaning more towards getting them, as they are a cool feature. I've researched them a lot, and I don't think I recall anyone who has them saying that they wish they didn't.

What do you all think?

I think if you are concerned about scratches and warping(?) you should get another color. Black is not the best for hiding these. "Walking on them"? I wouldn't and I would think you're asking for problems if you do. Remember, these are trucks not Porsches. Use them, work them, maintain them and have fun. I wouldn't stress over stuff like this. Just saying...

Have an '11 Outdoorsman with them. LOVE THEM. I have put everything in them so far. Tools, groceries, beer. Not much of an icechest when it isn't cold out, but who cares. Its cool when you open up your bed rail and throw someone a beer.

I walk on mine. NO problems. (185lbs)

It is hard to get at things in the bed if they are small or in the middle. Not alot worse than my 05 ford though, which had really high rails.

Bed capacity is smaller. So far, it isn't an issue for me, and i don't think it will be. Depends on if you need it on a day to day basis, and i'm guessing if you do, you'd know.

One complaint i have, is they don't seal up super tight. I drive alot of dusty roads, and have noticed dust getting in them. Am working on adding some door seal to them to tighten them up some. Should work out pretty good.

Also, another complaint is they come without the dividers in the boxes. Just ordered the $100 pieces of plastic. Chaps me, but i need them.

I have no regrets and would personally recommend them.

I didn't get the Rambox and regret it for all the reasons you listed as pros above. It seemed like an expensive option at the time I was purchasing and there wasn't any trucks with Rambox at local dealers with all the right options and colors I wanted, so I went without it. Still love my 2011 CC Sport, but I regret that no rambox decision.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

I'm definately not going to baby my truck. I was just concerned with putting stuff in and out of the rambox, and putting "stupid" scratches on it just because I ordered the option. Not a huge deal as it sounds like it's not much of a concern.

I'll have to go look at them again and determine for myself I guess. It looks and feels like the crew cab has decent amount of space anyway (unless I get dual subs...lol). The ramboxes will probably just end up being filled with junk that I leave in for 6 months at a time anyway...but we'll see.

More opinions welcomed.

The best part of having a RamBox is it keeps the cab cluter free.
No tools or hitch sliding around the the back floor.
The box size works great for me, pulling trailers, and with the F1 tonneau cover it's like a huge trunk for safety or storage and the RamBoxes are fully accessible with the cover down or up.
RamBox is now available for 6'4 boxes if you can live with a Quad cab.
Good luck:smileup:

i have a 2009 cc sport with ram box and it is brilliant black, i have it since jun 09 and up to now the ram box and the rest are like new, no warping at all,

the interior mesure the same as a regular box between the wheel ,.. just over 49" so unless you need to use the corner space in the bed you can do exactly the same,

also mine came with cargo management(i'm not sure how to call this) but basicly if you put your tailgate down this extented the bed wall and also those a new tailgate witch give you about a 7.5 foot long bed with tailgate close by a bit more then 4 foot,..

so like i said if you dont need the corner bed space them it exacly the same

i use the ram box for storage, my hitch and tie downs, winshield washer, and more,... they other side i often use it as a cooler , i put my beer in it with lots of ice :), there are drain plug in the buttom and also the ram box are isolated a bit like a cooler

in the summer when i go in vacation (camping with trailer) i can put extra stuff in there that i would need close and not jam pack in the travel trailer

All I can say is I wish they had been available on earlier models because I really like the idea and would go with them on my next truck.

That's Awesome! Nice Ram...and Nice Ram....haha. Did you really fit that in the rambox? Either way, Congrats!

Well, I fianlly ordered my ram today. Man...I was sooo excited. I ended up getting the black sport crew cab 4x4 with the rambox. I really put a lot of thought into the rambox. Actually took my cased shotgun, and big pair of boots to the lot with me to throw in a rambox on the lot. They fit...so I said, what the hell. I really didn't want to regret not getting them. The cargo management system with the bed extender is probably what put me over the top. That whole system just looks and feels solid! We'll see.

Thank you all for your help and opinions. I'll put more about my order in another thread.

Thanks and congrats. No, he didn't quite make it in the box. Would have gotten the celebratory beers dirty anyway....I did catch a live baby pig and he fit in there quite nicely.....doubles as a pig pen too....

You won't regret getting them. The Bed extender/divider is WAY useful as well. I use it all the time to keep stuff from sliding around in the bed. You'll enjoy it.

I have a 2011 laramie crew cab with the rambox.
And i LOVE it, tow straps, hitch, kabels, tools the passenger side, drinks and food in the driver side.

And when i am going to work with it, i can put the smal equipment in them en the big stuff in the bed.
Yes the bed is a bit smaller butt hell the boxe's make's it up (i get more stuf in the truck with rambox, than i get stuf in a normal bed without rambox) explain that! :p

You will not regret!
