I brought a 2010 1500 laramie and it came with the REN radio and the dealer sold me a upgrade to the RER nav unit and rear view camera for the same price as factory installed. So the new RER nav unit came in today and I went get it installed with the rear view camera and now the I-Pod integration does not work with the dealer installed RER nav unit. The I-Pod soft button is not even on the screen when the I-pod is hooked up. And the stupid service tech is saying that he talked to mopar and they told him that the I-pod intergration will not work since the RER nav unit was not factory installed. It just don't make no since to me why it would work fine with the REN non-nav radio that came with the truck but it won't work with the RER nav radio. The wiring is already there in the glove box for the I-pod from the factory and it worked fine with the REN radio. Some please shed some light on this for me since the dealer service techs are no help.

The only reason I can think off the top of my head for it not to work would be if the RER you have is a 2008 or older version that doesn't support ipod integration. I don't have all my info here at home but I can look farther into it tomorrow at work.

I would think it would be a newer version being it was order in November 2009 and it was only supposed to take 5 days for them to get it in but it took almost 2 months because it was on back order. I will get and the post the version info off screen and see if that helps. Thanks.

Thats what I tried telling the service tech Randy but all he can say is that the guy that he talked to with Mopar is telling him that it wont work because it was not factory installed with the RER and something is different with the wiring and that they are working on a fix for it.

I thought the only difference between the REN and RER was that RER has Navigation.

That's the only difference from the user perspective. But, the RER has the UConnect Bluetooth module built into the radio. The UConnect module is what controls the iPod.

The REN does NOT have the UConnect module built in. If you get a truck with a REN and UConnect from the factory, then the UConnect module (which, again, controls the iPod) is mounted to the right cab wall, behind the lower glove box.

The 2010s with the RER come with wiring already run into the upper glove box to plug into an iPod. That wiring, behind the glove box, merges into the truck's wiring harness. It does not just run from the back side of the glove box straight over to the RER radio. That is probably why the Mopar person is telling him it won't work. But, I would think you could get the normal iPod integration cable that would plug into the RER from an '09 model and it should be able to plug into the back of the RER and then you can route that into one of the glove boxes or even back to the center console.

All that said, I suppose it's possible that, because of the way the 2010s come that already have the RER, the connector that plugs into the back of the radio might already be filling the hole where the iPod cable would normally go. If that's true, then you may be screwed. They would need to make a new iPod cable that is made to plug in between radio and the wiring harness plug for the radio.
