Good day fellow Ram owners

I have a 1500 SLT 2013 with power steering issues. It started with me trying to back out of my driveway and as soon as I started turning the steering wheel violently shaked then stopped. Then shaked again when I tried. But was fine the third time. Then when for a drive but it did it again but this time power steering was gone and it was hulk power steering. Till I was almost home then it came back on its own. The next day it happened again. (It’s the electric power steering). I started looking around for another rack to replace this one but new ones are hard to come by. And the closest auto wrecker is 3 hours away. So I was thinking of repairing it my self. But was having a hard time finding info.
Does anyone know where I can find some information on this.

Most of the electronic power steering racks have a motor attached with an internal toothed belt like a timing belt. When the belts break or jump a tooth they do what your describing. Last I checked they're not serviceable and pre-calibrated by the manufacturer so that you have to buy a new one when the old one goes out. I'm sure someone somewhere has figured out how to do this but parts for them are impossible to get.

crappy idea + poor design + poor parts = one big fiasco. One more reason I'm keeping my 2007.

I wish you luck in finding a new one

Thanks for the info on the timing. That does make sense. I know I have found belts for this part online and seal kits. But nothing else. But it might take some digging to find how to time this thing but thank you so much for the info.
