Friends,

I am new to the truck ownership and looking for modifications for my 2016 RAM Laramie trim. I am city dweller but love outdoors.

Please list your favorites modification which provides the greatest value for the money spent.

Thanks,
RAMJI

Depends if you are talking about cosmetic mods vs. functional or performance mods. Also, depends on your taste. My favorite mod was $30 - a Dee Zee tailgate assist. Very simple, nobody sees it, but it's a nice to have. I also ordered and had my Weathertech liners in hand the day I took delivery and I will have those or something similar in every vehicle I own from now on. My other favorite mod is my folding hard tonneau cover. I know those aren't for everyone and I had never owned one before but it has been really nice for me.

Cosmetically, you can do a leveling kit fairly inexpensive but many often then want to upgrade their tires as the stock ones look a little small after a level.

Tailgate assist^^^^. Best $30 ever spent. Also, consider rust proof, husky floor liners and also a locking gas cap!!! And window tint the front :)

Wow.... am I getting old ?!?!??? Before I would have said exhaust, rims and a lift LOL.

Bilsteins and KO2s are the ones I've done that have consistently given me the most return on investment. Also the 1000 denier cordura nylon seat covers.

None of those were cheap, but I'd happily spend the cash again

Function over form:cowb:

My sincere thanks to all of you for answering my query. I really appreciate it. I got some of the basic ones like Tonneau Cover, Tint and Weather Tech liners. I will look into tailgait assist next and then into leveling kit.

Again thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I have a set of blocks to level the front 2" if you are interested. Let me know. I'll send them to you. Paid about $75 for the blocks originally and had them installed for about $75 in labor. After front end alignment, I had about $200 in the leveling of the front all together.

If you are interested, let me know. I'll pass them along for a reasonable amount.

FYI, Tailgate assist is pretty awesome. Annndddd if you get a new truck DEEZEE will send you the mounting kit for the shock for your new truck at no charge. Trust me.

I ordered an exhaust before I had the truck. For me it is usually the same list for every truck. Tonneau cover, bedliner, quality seat covers, weathertech mats and AVS side window visors and Aeroskin hood protector. Will have to do tailgate assist this time, it was standard on my Chevy.

Quick question for you folks with the husky or weather tech floor liners. I know they're designed to form to the floor of our trucks, but can the factory mats fit over the top of them? I'd like to give my floor as much protection as possible, but I really like the looks of the mats that came with the truck.

#14 ·
You could do that if you wanted - they will likely slide around a bit. What the recommend against doing is keeping the factory mats underneath the liners. In my opinion, I really don't see what putting the factory mats over the liners would really do as far as added protection. The liners are nice because you don't have to care what's on your shoes or what you might drop or spill. Just take them out now and then and dump them, spray them off and wipe them clean and put them back in.

IF within 6 months of new purchase AND there is a medical need, one can get up to $400 US for running boards.

I installed an HID light upgrade kit, Tonneau cover, black tube side steps, and a oil catch can on the engine. Save your money and do not buy a called cold air intake kit. The ram already has a cold air intake on it, and all the aftermarket ones due is make more noise. Some people say they are getting a lot of extra power, thats is ok because it is not my money.

so far I've added a
catch can
stub antenna
window tint
vent visors
factory floor mats (here is where I learned a valuable lesson) DO NOT go cheap with these especially if you live in snowy climates. I wish I would've gotten Weather techs or Husky mats. My factory ones have allowed debris and salt/sand in between the mat and door sill and around the gas pedal. I'll be shampooing the carpet in the spring and upgrading my mats! I would also say to put protection in areas that get high use or are targets for rust.

I have to say, I absolutely LOVE my new 2016 Ram 1500 Big Horn!

Things I've added:
- Tail light chrome
- Tail gate handle chrome
- Third tail light chrome
- Door side chrome molding (to protect from azzhole door dingers!)
- Side steps (yes, sorry, over $100)
- Grille guard (again, over $100)

Things I plan on adding:
- Pig tail and mounts for parking sensors, to mount onto grille guard (Will build myself)
- Tailgate assist
- Rear light bars for reverse backup lights
- Silver light bulbs in headlights, or convert to HID light bulb system.
- Light bar on front Grille Guard and wire to both (1) on/off switch and (2) high beam lights (if switch is on) NOTE: Can only light when high beam lights are on.
- Rear taillight LED bar (red)
- LED front daylight running lights
- Bed liner
- Tonneau cover

That should keep me both broke and busy for the next few months. LOL

Why are you going to connect it to the headlights? It would seem to me that you wire it to comeon with the switch it would come on with the switch with or without the head lights being on in high or low beam. I think you are just adding work with number 2.
If you want the light bar to come on if the high beams are on then that would mean you would need a relay set up so ic turned on hte light bar with the switch OR the high beams.

But you might want to check the lawn in your state and any other state you drive through at night because in some stated have a law about how many white lights you are allowed to have on in the front of the vehicle at night.

They're a little high but for the area it's not bad. Wisconsin+winter=high prices on anything winter related! After my last truck a 2011 staring to have major rust issue in the wheel area in 2015, I'll gladly invest $500 into preventing it on my 2016. I hope to have this one looking fresh in 10 years.

I got one with my truck. I like how you can open the back panel or just the front panel and both have locks on them. I don't like that it's not removal friendly for times I want to put my quad in the box.

Wasn't looking at performance mods.

I put in:

Interior Air filter (behind glove box, cutout/cover was already there)
Amp tailgate step
Undercover Tonneau cover (locking hard cover I can remove/reinstall myself when I need an uncovered bed)
Window Tint (great for the Florida sun)
Husky floor mats (great mats, form fitted, easy to clean)
AVS Bug deflector on hood
Antennax 13" off road antenna (one of the few short antennas with good reception)
Replaced stock Alpine dash speakers and woofer...replacing rear door speakers next

future:
Power steering skid plate (completes protection group pkg)
tailgate assist

Already had RAM chrome side steps/nerf bars and spray in bedliner w/my Laramie

Happy with all the mods. Hard to rank them...like them all. Great forum for ideas!
