Spp, kind of hate to ask this since it may make other guys ask the same question. I'm curious as to where the rail drop off point is for a dealer located in Caldwell, ID (Boise). I know the rail drop for my local area is Santa Rosa, NM which I have found via Google Earth. Also curious as to the quoted rail time from Warren to Idaho.
Thanks for all you do (and putting up with Detroit weather)!

unrelated question, but there are some very knowledgeable dealer insiders here....

So just for fun I look up my dealers website at trucks for sale, and notice the one I ordered with my name on it is listed as pretty much an ad for sale ith my vin, options etc... It does say "this vehicle is in transit" but is this automatic for it to show up on there like that??? Again I wouldn't want it sold under me!

I think I may go in and actually get a PO with the Vin now on it, but they told me before pretty much they cant take my trades or do the deal-paperwork until they receive it and "invoice" it

any answers or thoughts ?

I might be delayed because I ordered with air suspension. Sounds like that option is delayed... Better come soon cause my Jeep is getting rough :p
Take this with a grain of salt because I am not 100% sure but...

It could be due to the EcoDiesel. I know they are in production but they are in the ramp up phase. That means while they are producing them, they aren't producing them at full capacity. They are taking their time to ensure the process they have been perfecting over the last year is...perfected. That slows things down a bit. With that said, there are a few people in the tracking list above that have the EcoD and one is scheduled. It's coming.

I show Utah as the final rail destination. Maybe here? I'm not 100% sure. I'll find out once it starts moving and gets close. Quoted time is 17 days.

So what happens is the dealer has what is called a "Dealer Management System" and this system is independent of corporate systems and is run by the dealer (or it's IT provider). Sometimes these vehicles are flagged as sold by their DMS and not shown and sometimes they are not. It's all up to the dealer. Your name is on the window sticker by the way if you ordered it ;)

From start of build Thursday to en route yesterday. Sounds almost too quick, but thanks for the update spp!
I'll point to this and this. (21 days from order to dealer).

I have a question about the Ecodiesels. Why were they available to order in Canada so much sooner than the US?
I can't say definitively but I guess it has something to do with the difference between US and Canadian regulations. Again, my guess, I don't know.

SPP - thanks again for the continuous updates you do for the community - we really appreciate it.

when is an actual VIN assigned to a vehicle? I think I remember reading the 'when' in this thread, but I don't know that I want to re-read 144 pages to find the answer ;)

thanks boss!
I'll answer this seperately because it deserves a through answer that will help you and everyone else out.

You all know about the statuses that are periodically linked (B-KZ) in this thread but you may not know what specifically they mean and the fact there are substatuses (other than B and D) that help plant people track specifically where a vehicle is in process. This is my view of the process and I may not be 100% accurate in some places (I'll call that out) but it should help provide insight into how your order becomes your truck:

B - Your order exists but isn't fully confirmed yet. Plant doesn't know about it yet. Systems are checking the order to ensure it's valid in terms of sales codes, Finance is checking to make sure the dealer has all their ducks in a row, etc.

C - Your order is "subfirm". The plant can see the order at this point but it's not fully committed to building as the supplier may or may not be able to get parts to the plant to build the truck. I am not sure of all the details on this state yet so I can't comment further.

D - Firm order. Your order now has a name instead of a number: A VIN! Materials should have been ordered by this point if all goes well, you should have a truck.

D1 - The date is set for your truck to be built. The plant knows when it should have parts sequenced for building and it should start to be built within 48 hours of the date set.

D2 - It's going to be built. The computers are being programmed, materials are being sequenced, framing is about to occur.

E - Frame. Metal is welded together to form the body and frame. The body is inspected at the end of this step to ensure it's within tolerances.

F - Paint. The metal is coated, primed, sprayed, clearcoated, polished, inspected, and hand finished if necessary.

G - Trim. The engine is installed in the chassis, the interior is installed, the chassis is mated to the body, the bed is put on. At the end of this, your truck is built.

I - Inspection. Your truck goes through a battery of shakedown tests and measurements are taken to ensure the vehicle looks and performs as expected.

JB - Body Vendor. The vehicle is sent off site to have a spray liner put in, steps, etc.

JS - Storage. Some of you call this "Prison". I like to think of it as QA trying to ensure you get what you expected. Typically if something happens or is found in the I step (or even a previous step), it goes here to get checked and fixed. A panel looks off color, a part on your truck was in the same batch as a bunch of failed parts, a light doesn't turn on, etc will all cause the truck to get sent here for a detailed inspection and fix.

Another reason it can end up here is either the dealer has asked to have the trucked delayed (it has a full lot and can only handle so many) or it has a special event coming up. Typically that isn't done on a sold order. It can also end up here at the start of a model year where production is ramping up but the vehicle has not be released (or certified) for shipment. You all are aware of this at the start of the 2014 model year.

Nobody likes the vehicle to be in this status as you don't get your truck and Chrysler doesn't make money.

KZ - Shipment. The truck is ready to be shipped. The dealer is actually charged for the truck. As you all know, this can be a source of delay. Typically you see me put two statuses here: Awaiting Shipment and "Staged for Shipment". The first means it is in the general shipping yard waiting to be pulled to be put on a truck and/or train. The second means it has been pulled to be put on a truck and/or train but it hasn't actually got on the truck or train yet. There are a ton of substatuses here to track the status of the vehicle as it makes its way through the shipping system. KZX is the only one that you really care about as that means it was delivered to the dealer.

Whew...

D1 - Your order is now scheduled to build. Plant knows when it should have parts sequenced for building and it should start to be built within 48 hours of this.

spp, for this I assume you mean it should start to be built within 48 hours of the build date they give? For example I've had D1 stage and a 2/3/14 build date for a week now. Not complaining at all just trying to understand. My dealer actually texted me yesterday and told me my truck was scheduled to build this week?

SPP,

Mine has been on its way from Ohio a few days, I would assume the trip is actually only a day or two but understand rail yards and shipping may not move in a bang-bang type order. Once it hits the rail yard in Ohio is it then trucked to Madison, WI? How long does the truck ride part of the adventure ususally take if weather is not a factor? Is there any chance it would hit my dealer lot before this weekend? Thanks!

I ordered the truck and got my POC on Jan 2nd, it has my name, address and VON. I handed over my car ownership (trade-in) to the dealer on Jan 2nd, as soon as the order went through and we agreed on a price. Dealer lets me drive the trade-in till the truck is being built and delivered. I'm guessing your dealer is not hungry enough.

nice, thanks, an up to date status code list.
Same list as always, the substatuses just don't get shown often.

D1 - Your order is now scheduled to build. Plant knows when it should have parts sequenced for building and it should start to be built within 48 hours of this.

That is correct and I'll update. D1 is where the date is set and the truck is usually built within 48 hours of that date.

It's in a mixing yard in Toledo, Technically en route but it's on a pit stop. I believe it will going by rail to either Chicago or Minnesota and then by truck to WI. Truck takes a couple of days to a week depending on how many stops.

So it sounds like I am at least still a week out. Oh well, as they say "it is what it is."

So, it looks like the race is on between Shadow241 and myself as to whom gets their truck to the dealer first, seeing we are both about the same distance from Montreal. As for me actually getting the truck first well let's say my ride home will easily break the truck in.
