I think you should be fine although I would look at your laptop's manual to read if there is anything you should be aware of.

Your laptop runs on DC power, even when pluged into a 110/120 v AC outlet. The laptop cord (the box on the cord) converts AC into DC. Thus, regardless of the power source for the 110/120v, your laptop should regulate it to the appropriate DC power. To be safe, I would use a small surge protector to avoid issues should your truck's power flucatuate as you are using your laptop. Same holds true if plugged into your house outlet.

 

You'll need to keep the Wattage below the 150watt max. To calculate watts Watts=Voltage x Amps. Check the AC adapter on the laptop you should find the information required to calculate the watts there. Mine shows 120V and 1.9 amps so the watts would be 228 watts, very safe to use in the RAM. I don't know if I would use the three prong to adapter though?

One small issue with going from a 2 prong to a 3 prong is your laptop will no longer be grounded. If i'm using a lap top in the truck, I went out and got a 500W power inverter that plugs into the 12V outlet. I know it's not the same as just plugging it in, but this way you'll keep your ground and have 2 fuses between your laptop and a power surge,

 

I have used my laptop with my Ram for 18 months, but, it only has a 2 prong electrical plug

 

I think most of the newer laptops have 2 prong plugs....my older one has 3
My 10.1" netbook is outputting 19 volts at 2.1 amps or 40 watts...That is well below 150 and I have a two prong plug!

 

You're looking at the wrong side. Some power is consumed in the rectifying and regulating your 19VDC so you need the power draw on the AC side of the charger. I'm sure you'll still be ok, but to do it right you have to use the AC numbers.

 

The input says 100-240v, 50-60Hz, 1.0 amp
so I'm h=guessing 110 watts?
