I have 17x8 aftermarket rims and currently have the stock 275/70/17. Is it safe to run 33x12.5x17? I see where a lot of people do and they explain they mess with the tire pressure for off road use. I do not drive off-road, always highway. Any help or advice is recommended!

If all you do is highway drive than don't even bother with wide tires, all it will do is kill you mpg and be unnessicararly loud. Just buy a good set of on road tires.
I think most people like them because they look cool. I can't see a reason to go beyond the stock 275 width. IIRC older Rams came with 235s which seem like pizza cutters now, but they got the job done
They will work just fine. Obviously it is being done for the look and big off road tires look good to me:smileup:
The problem you may run into is that the couple 35x12.5 tires I looked at state a minimum rim width of 8.5 inches. Some tire shops are going to take a hard line there and not mount them. You should be able to find a shop with common sense though that will do the work.

my Power wagon runs 285/70R17's which are 33" tires on 8" wide wheels, not quite as wide as a 12.50 X 33" but just as tall, there are a few tires that are 285/75R17 which are another 1" taller
