Hello all.Not new to the forum just disappeared for a bit.I bought a cummins and went over to Cummins forum but now I'm back .I just bought a 25 1500 Laramie last weekend with the I6 Hurricane.I was unaware that Ram had discontinued the Hemi.Anyways I haven't found much on this newer engine yet and was wondering what everybody else thinks that has one.It seems to have more pep than the old 5.7 but just not a good sound!

This service dept technician is not impressed with the Hurricane: (but if you’ve already bought it, I hope you have good luck. I was in the market for a new truck and didn’t want it because although it’s not exactly a “New” design… it’s new to Ram Pickups and I’ve had poor experiences with introductory vehicles):

I too wasn't sure about the i6. I was able to find a 24 leftover 2500 big horn with the 6.4.

I love it was driving a 1500 towing a 7000 lb RV had the 5.7 but seemed to be straining while towing. The 2500 won't have any problem, just wish the MpG was a little better. Getting 14.5 without a load figure dramatically lower while towing.

Typo, I don't have a Cummins diesel....fat fingers.

I think you’ll be happy with the 6.7 Cummins for towing and for MPG. I was trapped out of town in KY with a wrecked Ram 1500 (underpowered with a 4.7 pulling a travel trailer…11 mpg)…and had to buy a new truck to get 1200 miles back home. (old man ran a redlight, T-boned anther truck, side-swiping mine)

The dealer had 3 trucks with Ramboxes (which I MUST have)… a Hurricane (which I turned down because I didn’t want an introductory engine and it was a Black truck… living in Tx I didn’t want a heat-absorbing dark color) … a pretty red Power Wagon with a 6.4 (to which I probably should have given more thought)…. and a 2500 Limited with 6.7 Cummins in “Pearl” Night Edition.

I forgot my previous aversion to diesel and quickly closed the deal, anxious to get my trailer, wife, and pup and hit the road back home.
I will say…. except for the horror-stories found in Forums…. (keep in-mind that the vast majority of owners have zero troubles…but Most of the ones that Do have problems are found over-and-over endlessly complaining and prompting everyone else to worry ….online)…. except for those … this 6.7 will HAUL. HOO-EEE…!! :p

16-17mpg pulling the trailer… 19 hiway mpg otherwise

David, I bought the 2025 limited Hurricane HO. Tried putting it in sport mode and it automatically changed to 4WD auto and turned off traction control. I left it in sport mode but put it back in 2WD and turned traction control back on. I floored it from a stop and it spun the rear wheels for a sec until it caught traction and it chirpped 2nd & 3rd!!!. The Hurricane 3.0 is amazing and you can increase the horsepower by 104 HP with the JB4 tuner and another 40 HP with the K&N air injection kit. The HO puts out 545 HP stock, so for $1000 you can easily get 689 HP with plug and play mods. I traded a Dodge Charger Daytona 392 with mods for the Hurricane and my truck pulls just as hard as the charger did. It's not a new engine, its been in the Wagoneer for a couple years now so it's a proven power plant. I've had mine since December and like yours it's performed perfectly. Enjoy your Tungsten :)

I’ve installed another BakFlip cover….but the new 2500 has a 6’4” bed ..while the previous 1500 was a 5’7” and the rack would not transfer. (The rack was handy, …I primarily used it to carry a Grumman canoe when pulling the Airstream…. but I don’t know that I’ll replace that.) I had had that rack treated with bed-liner by a local shop and it really looked and held up well. I’ll do that again if I get another rack.)

I bought a 2025 1500 Laramie last month, mine has the 3.92 gear ratio which I always preferred. I have about 1000 miles on it now and really like the new engine. Mine is the standard output 420 HP version and has more "get up and go" than my last Hemi eTorque (also with 3.92s), Despite what the window sticker says, fuel consumption is about the same. I like the sound because I am not a fan of noise, the I^ is also a lot smoother than the V8.

The guy in the video in the second post? Well.........he said himself that he isn't an expert, and it shows.

If there is one thing I don't like about my truck. You don't get LED taillights on a Laramie anymore; at least the give you fender flares again.

First of all, THIS is how you're supposed to take pictures....

Image

....Not that vertical crap that is standard for "smart" phones. Wide subjects need the landscape aspect....

Here is a prime example of doing it wrong...

Image

Secondly, the thick and tall body shapes on new trucks look horrible. I don't know how anyone can look at a front end of a truck like this and not imagine a scaled down 18 wheeler rig. Sorry to offend but these look like Rosie O Donnell standing next to a supermodel if you parked next to these....

Image

Even the 1994-2001 trucks looked thick for their time compared to these:

With that out of the way, I understand that when you're in a jam, you do what you can.
I don't see me ever accepting an EV and certainly no straight six in a car or truck. I don't care how fast it is or the fuel economy, I like the feel and sound of a V8. Call me a traditionalist or a dinosaur for clinging to old fashioned things but a gasoline powered V8 is proven technology. The sound of stock late model stuff is too damned quiet too. I rip the stock mufflers off and weld in something that lets me hear the rumble. The straight six, by design, sounds terrible compared to a V8. The Viper V10s and SRT V10s made great power but sounded like a UPS truck. No thanks, man.
Tavares killed off the 5.7 Hemi but it is coming back. With the new EPA guidelines, we might even see a scale back on emission standards as well as ditching that potentially troublesome MDS.
Sell that truck while you can. The resale of the EVs and non V8 trucks may plummet once the new EPA rules go into effect and Dodge/Ram starts building faster and more powerful V8 trucks.

@Kern Dod,

Always "good" to get a lecture from a real computer savvy tech guy, not everybody is as "smart" as you.

With that out of the way. Even if Ram brings back the Hemi for the 1500, that will really put you in a bind. It will have the engine you prefer, but, according to you, in an ugly truck.

Speaking for myself. I like the 5th gen looks and the new engine, as well as the 5.7L Hemi. I am happy with either one.

While I do appreciate the sarcasm, I also have lost tolerance for the substandard especially when it isn't hard to do things the right way. My point about the pictures is the easiest of my points to defend.
I wish that Steve Jobs were still alive because I'd love to tell him what a stupid choice he made by making "Portrait aspect" the default for the iphone. Millions of mindless idiots just accept it and record pictures and videos this way. It looks fine for recording a person's face, a tree, a giraffe, skyscraper and rocket launch but it sucks for everything else.
Vehicles are longer than they are tall so to get the "landscape aspect" image, it really is as simple as this:

Turn the phone sideways. The pictures go from this:

To this:

Our eyes are not arranged like this:

So vertical/portrait angled pictures and video look stupid.
Regarding the appearance of the trucks, I blame the government regulations and loopholes for the way the manufacturers were forced to comply. The short bed, regular cab trucks are all but extinct because the longer a truck is, the less stringent the fuel economy standards have to be. When the trucks don't meet the targets, there is/was the gas guzzler tax added to the MSRP.
Recent changes in government seem to be reversing the trend though, we may see a return to more sensible engineering and design.

At first thought, that would seem true.
The fly in that ointment is that with EPA getting gutted, it won't be as easy. With societal shifts as we have seen in the past year, Americans have stepped away from the extreme views that were pushed on us for too dang long.
They pushed too far and we are returning to sanity...at least for a little while.

Okay. A lit of folks are going to hate me. Let me explain.

Turbos are destroyed by, dust, dirt, water, and any fine particulate from hay to saw dust.

If you carry a filter and cleaning kit for your turbos, you should get pretty good performance on the hard top road. When you take your Turbo Ford, Chevy, GMC, RAM, or Porsche off road into a high dust environment, you increase the failure rate of the turbo by 70%. Why MOPAR thought it was a great idea after Ford and GM have been swapping out turbos like I change my underware (Every day in my case) and are trying to figure out how to create a sealed turbo like Porsche and several other auto manufactures attempted. All succumbed to dust. If you decide you want to use your truck for off road activity in areas like Tucumcari N.M., Jackson Hole Wyoming or any other remote dusty area, be prepared to have Turbo failure or complications. Your engine should still run, but at the base H.P.

While in Iraq and Afghanistan, the turbos on tanks and the MRAPS, FIVE tons and a few other ground pounding vehicles would average about 15 to 20 hours and a thorough cleaning and lubrication or replacement had to be done.

Turbos are nice on the hard top and just not good off road. Make wise decisions with your money.

Quote from post #19:

"While in Iraq and Afghanistan, the turbos on tanks and the MRAPS, FIVE tons and a few other ground pounding vehicles would average about 15 to 20 hours and a thorough cleaning and lubrication or replacement had to be done."

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard. I spent 2 tours in Iraq, the last one as a Battalion Maintenance Officer and none of our shops replaced a single turbo charger. You don't clean them, and they are continuously lubricated by pressurized engine oil. What we did do, was to clean the air filter elements a lot more frequently.
With that said, rarely will anybody drive their turbocharged car or truck through sand storms.

Same here. Went from a 22 Laramie Hemi 5.7 to a 2025 Black Laramie SST 3.0 Hurricane. I have to say the SST has more power and torque by far. I absolutely love it and agree the sound doesn't sound as good. try driving it real slow and listen to it will sound like a diesel. (y)
