Does anyone know what the equivalent fluid is to the Mopar t-case lube for trucks equipped with the Borg Warner 44-44 transfer case? I am wanting to change the oil in my difs and t-case but cant find that info.

Well I will let them (Dodge) change the t-case oil but the difs ill do myself. My truck has 55,000kms so I am going full synthetic front to back. I have been running full synthetic in the motor, the only downside is when the motor shuts down to 4cyl mode there is no compression on 4 of the cylinders and the synthetic oil bypasses the rings so I do get blue smoke at start up!

Picked up all the oil for my truck, going with 2 x 1ltr Amsoil severe gear 75w90 synthetic in the front dif and 3 x 1ltr Amsoil severe gear 75W140 synthetic in the rear dif plus the Amsoil slip lock additive. I am also going to try the Signature series 5W20 100% synthetic x 7ltrs in the motor with the recommended with the AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter. My cost for these products was $220. They claim the motor oil and filter are good for 25,000 miles? What do you guys think?

That's exactly what I run in my truck, but it sees a lot of dusty conditions and some pretty tough service in the oil field business.
I change the engine oil/filter every 10K. Air filter at least every 20K and sometimes even more often depending on conditions. I change the fluid diffs and tranny fluid/filters at 100K along with a coolant and spark plug change. It's been one tough truck in some pretty harsh conditions. I'm happy with it.

Im wondering what you guys think of this listing on the Amsoil site. They appear to have a fluid listed for the BW 44-44 T-Case now.

That's interesting, somebody should call Amsoil about it and ask if it really is for the BW44-44. I would but I'm not in the US.

The BW 44-44 is used by Ford and Ram so its pretty popular and it makes sense there would (finally) be an aftermarket fluid for it. I was just going to buy the Mopar fluid from the dealer, but this is probably no more expensive and is likely better. I wouldn't pay someone to change the t-case fluid, its just too easy; easier than engine oil.

Correct fluid doesn't just mean OEM. Pennzoil, Amsoil, Royal Purple, and Mobil are all good oils despite not being the "Mopar" oil

I didn't say correct as in brand. What I'm saying is the correct 'type' of fluids to use is all in the owners manual if one cares to read it. As you say, they are good oils. By the time all the strangers offer their advice on what to use the job could have been done by now by just going to the dealership and buying from them. If we were all in agreement on which is best there'd be a clear winner but thats certainly not the case.

I purchased 2 quarts of Mopar 68089195AA Transfer Case Lubricant for Borg Warner 44-44 Transfer Case on Ebay for $36.00 with free shipping. Also works for the Borg Warner 44-45 Transfer case. Shop around. The Stealership is the last place I would go. Not sure what the Amsoil lube costs, but the Mopar stuff is synthetic as well. -Glen

I don't since the 44-44 in my truck doesn't use ATF+4, but since the manual states under transfer case:

We recommend you use MOPAR® ATF+4® Automatic
Transmission Fluid.

and then goes on to have a second entry for the 44-44 specifying:

We recommend you use MOPAR® BW44–44 Transfer
Case Fluid.

I would be using ATF+4 in a 44-45 if I had one

I am at about 52,000 and will be changing my axles and t case soon. This will be the first time I've ever changed diff or t case fluid on a vehicle.

Does your Laramie have the "auto" feature?
Laramies come with the 44-44 with the auto 4wd.

I was just going to get the Mopar fluid, but now that Amsoil has an option I may get it. I will probably do the t case at a later date than the diffs; I'm not going to split the case but I will wiggle my inspection magnet around in the drain hole and shine a light in there.

I would do the Rockland Standard part time conversion:

but it seems they can't figure out the electrical aspect quite yet:

If I do end up needing a new T-case I will be getting a 44-45, whether they will do it as a warranty claim or whether I have to pay out of pocket.

Yep, much better info here on Ramforumz than many dealers will give you

I did the F/R diff and transfer case. I have the BW 44-44, and looking back at all my service papers I have never had the T-case fluid changed, only the F/R diff. So what is in the T-case was original, the fluid was red. Here is a pic of what came out.

I used all Amsoil products that they have listed for the 2011 ram, they mentioned that I should not need the limited slip additive. I purschased it anyway in case it chattered at all after the fluid change. I took it out for a drive and it's quiet and smooth, I will hold on to the additive incase I need it later.

So far so good! I wanted to post my experience so the next guy who goes looking for info like this has something to reverence.

T-case is Signature series multi vehicle ATF - ATFQT

How is your T-case working with the Amsoil fluid?

#44 ·
I took it for a drive tonight and tried the 4WD auto and 4WD Hi settings, i experienced no lag, no grinding, no noise. It shifts super smooth! I will keep and eye on it and post again after I have driven for a few months. I run the truck in 4wd auto all winter so that will be the true test i guess. But after pulling the plug and seeing the red fluid come out i feel more at ease about the situation and don't expect to have any real problems.

I hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Is the engagement still solid? I'm thinking about ordering some of this fluid

#46 ·
Engagement is solid, you have to really listen for it now as the slight clunk/thud feeling is almost all gone. I'm sure you know what I mean about the slight feel you get when engaging. Its was never a "holy h*ll what was that, oh yeah 4WD just engaged" That slight feel when it locks is even slighter now.

Is that the info you were looking for?

I used the following:

Front - Severe Gear 75W-90 (SVGQT-EA)
Rear- Severe Gear 75W-140 (SVOQT-EA)
T-Case - Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATFQT-EA)

- I bought slip lock also but didn't use it, the Severe Gear 75W-140 has LSD modifiers in it already. No chatter was noticed when doing tight figure eights, but I will keep an eye on it for a while just in case.
