Just wow. It is astounding how ignorant people are with regard to what the real cost of replacing a cam in any motor is, let alone in these Hemi's. I am not talking about whether any suit has merit or anything like that... but holy crap. This thread reminds of me that old commercial where the girl has her new "French" boyfriend, and she's saying "It's on the internet, so it must be true".

I have a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500. It says spark plug 8 and cylinder 8. We changed those to no avail. It didn't change anything. It will cost me $521 for the shop to open the engine to determine what lifter(s)are damaged and/or if the cam is destroyed. I was told, after that, to replace the cam and/or the lifters, it will cost me thousands of dollars to repair.

It is a shame that dodge did not create better engine components. I still owe about $10k on the vehicle. I'm sure I will have to purchase a new engine and pay a hell of alot of money for the labor to have it put in.

Unload it and cut your losses
If the price is right a handy mechanic will buy it

My 2013 ram long horn with 5.7 hemi has the same problem I replaced the motor 2 years ago and how the same thing again I was told the drain holes in the back of the motor there was none so the oil that is there stays there

HI!

I figured I would post here as everyone is probably worn out by the 71 pages of the sticky thread on this topic.

I've started a class action suit for this issue. I need 5 individuals with this problem to be initially named to file the suit.

From attorney " I need any pamphlets, user manuals or other paperwork from when the car was purchased. Ideally there be a separate document spelling out the warranty terms. Also a repair bill or something stating the exact issue."

Bonus is you are from South Carolina ! would make the suit much easier to file. Feel free to DM me if interested.
have you started your class action yet ? I have a 2014 Ram with the 5.7 was just told my camshaft has to be replaced and this is common issue. I would like to join the fight against CJDR and their repeated inexcusable motor issues. I have documentation showing routine oil changes and other maintenence

Its not going to happen its been going on for so long, not to mention every manufacturer that used cyl cut out has the exact same issue.. You have a 10 year old truck and your grasping at straws and even if their was a class action in the works you more than likely would not be eligible. Anyone can fake documentation for oil changes and maintenance. When i purchased mine i was unaware about the issue as i have never been a ram person but when i found out about it i have no issue if i have to replace the engine.... ya it sucks but so does live sometimes. I could see this if the truck was only a few years old but a 10 year old truck.

Thank you for your response I understand my truck being older I figured it was an engine issue no matter age. P.S. My vehicle has been serviced at dealership and/or FIRESTONE its whole life, so it would be hard to FAKE the documentation
