Coolant Leak

I noticed this morning when I went outside that there was a small damp spot where my truck sits. I looked this evening when my wife came home with the truck to see if it was leaking. It looks as if coolant is running from somewhere on the front of the motor toward the top, down the front and the fan is blowing it back onto the oil filter area. It then is travelling down the oil filter onto the oil filter ramp and onto the ground.

I checked the water pump, and all of the hoses and hose clamp areas on the drivers side where the leak is running. I also checked the oil to make sure it isn't a head gasket. Everything checked out OK, with no leaks or residue. This has me stumped. The rate it is leaking you can't even tell that the reservoir is loosing coolant.

Has anyone ever had a leak similar to this?

It is a 2008, 4.7L, Quad cab SLT, 4WD, Automatic.

Yeah, if you've found no obvious leaks elsewhere, it's likely the pump itself leaking. If it's in your 2008, the timing sounds about right.

They can run like that, leaking relatively small amounts, for quite a while sometimes, then suddenly start squealing real bad one day, start spraying coolant all over the place, and leave you stranded at the side of the road.

That's no fun, so I'd deal with it ASAP if it was me.

I don't think it's the pump. I checked for movement or slop and didn't find any. The more I checked it, it looks like it may be leaking at the top of the pump housing and running down the block to where I've found it dripping. I don't know why it would be leaking there but who knows. I think it may be covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the responses.

If it is the water pump & you decide to fix it yourself
do yourself a favor & take the radiator to a real radiator shop & have them ROD it out, it will come back as good as new. Do not take it to an auto parts store, the reason being that they will send it to a real radiator shop & add in middle man fees :(

While the radiator shop is completely cleaning out the radiator, you can be installing the water pump & replacing the Thermostat

Here is a video that you may want to watch

Another thing about using a radiator shop, they can repair or replace any part of the radiator, the tanks or the core can be repaired or replaced, if needed, at a whole lot less than buying a new radiator at a parts store
