Low Fuel Warning

WTF is Imperial? I thought Canada used Metric.

So aside from having to listen to the facile arguments about how the metric system is better, now we have to be able to convert from two different systems of measure??

Once you know the truck, you should have a pretty good idea of how much fuel you have left. I know i can go 80ish miles once the light comes on: 8gal left - 2 for safety&pump = 6gal x 15mpg = 90 miles (then cut some off to be safe). Just use conservative estimates and you'll be fine. The only time it bothers me is in the winter when i can't use the remote start when there's still 8 gallons in the tank. Could idle for a day with that much fuel.
Yeah that's what Im saying. I can drive home from Wilmington with a 3000lb trailer once the light is on. I don't have remote start so that part makes no difference

Not really though because you don't know how much gas you have. My needle will be on empty, range will say low fuel and I still put the equivalent of 26 gallons in and I have verified that I have the 32 gallon tank. Thats ~200-250kms of driving that I theoretically still could do before having to fill up but don't because I have no idea how much gas I have left at that point.

It's not a huge deal, but it doesn't work correctly and it would be nice to be able to actually make use of the $250 option for the bigger tank.
Even on a 26 glalon tank the gauge isnt too precise. You said yourself that you can get 200kms after the light comes on; I am comfortable going up to 50 miles after my light comes on

It's basically pretty simple, they give us the option of a bigger tank for more range, which you pay extra for, but it still reads like a 26 gallon tank so you can't use the extra range which makes the option worthless and a waste of $. I just hope the fix is out before my next oil change so I can get it all done at once.
I still don't understand your reasoning. The extra fuel is still there so you can still use the extra range

I guess this is why Chrysler says (five extra gallons of fuel) on the sticker. The 2nd part of the sticker. I thought I got 5 free gallons of gas when I bought it and wondered how they did it with an already full tank. I'm going to get my dealer to update it so I can really trust the gauge. Oh, fuel pumps pretty much need to be in the tank. They pump at least 50 psi across most vehicles if not more on many. You can only suck 29 psi or 1 atmosphere. All the new pumps for the last 20 or 30 years are safer being cooled by the fuel. They are usually two pumps in the same housing. One is right on the bottom for priming the higher pressure one just above it. The second one can't pump air.
No you were right. The 32 gallon tank is listed as its own separate option

I think there set up for it lol with the overhead winch. I think there's like only 4 torx to undo and some wire disconnects. Why would they put the friggin pump in the tank ? In the good ol days mounted to firewall. That's why you call it a fire wall lol.
Back when they were mechanical and not electric?

I replaced it at 125k. They do suck. 2 ways to do, lift bed or drop tank. They put the Stoopid pump in the tank. Maybe they all do it I don't know. The lifted my bed.
Our pumps are in the tank. Dropping the tank would be way easier Id think

I fill up at 1/4 tank now. I can't prove it but I think it makes your fuel pump last longer than sucking off bottom of tank. My last Z-71 I used to run her down to the bone and sure enough needed a pump.
After how long?

It means when the gas light comes on you actually need gas. the point of getting the bigger tank is to get more rangewhich you dont get the way its programmed now because why play a guessing game. I usually fill up before the gas light even comes on but the way its programmed on the 32 gal tank right now when the needle is on empty I still effectively have a quarter tank.
You do get more gas, you get 6 more gallons. All it means is the needle goes down faster and when the light comes on you can go farther before needing to fill. Its not exactly accurate but once you go through a couple tanks then you should be used to it. Every vehicle is different.

Good news because that drives me nuts, it effectively makes the 32 gal tank a waste of money the way the gauge is programmed now. I'll definitely be taking my truck in when this update comes out.
I mean it doesn't change how much gas is in the tank, just how far you can push the gas needle to the left

I just picked up my truck on friday and filled up for the first time today with the gauge reading 70 miles left.. Based on what i've been reading on these forums i did not expect to fill 25 gallons. Glad i didn't try to stretch it. i will have to run until empty to see how accurate my gauge actually is.

Any word on what the model year range of vehicles this will apply to will be?

Thats normal for trucks with the 32 gallon tank. FCA is going to release a software update to correct it, suppose to be in the first quarter of this year.
So that all of us who are used to how the fuel gauge works will push it too far and run out of gas

One member said he drove until the truck wouldn't go any more with a jerry can in the bed. It shut off with 2 gallons left and he had to add gas for the truck to start up again
