Hello All! I am having a slight problem with my 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn w/ 5.7 V8 HEMI. I started getting this "parking light out" message on my dash after I brake. It goes off in a second or two. Also, it is only when the parking lights or headlights are on whether manually or in "Auto" mode. There are no aftermarket lights installed. Have done a look-over with multiple persons and can not find anything out of the ordinary. I did take to a Ram Truck Center and had a tech to look at and they found a light bulb that had a loose filament. They replaced and said I was good to go. I got into truck and drove away not noticing that the headlight selector was in the OFF mode. I turned it to Auto, Parking, and Full Headlights and the message re-appeared. Has anyone ever had this happen to them or heard about this? Any help will be graciously appreciated!

Ricky

*update* 2/14/2017

Guys/Gals,

Here is an update report of "Parking Light Out" message when braking. Recap: I would get the message upon initial braking anytime the lights were ON. In other words, they would have to be on in order for this message to appear. If they were in the OFF position, nothing would happen and everything would seem normal! If I had the headlight selector on Auto or w/ parking lights on or w/ headlights on, the message would appear when I apply the brakes.

I purchased this 2013 Ram 1500 Big Horn from a CARMAX near me. However, since it was a good drive away, I decided to take it to a Ram Truck Center. They looked it over and said that they found a faulty bulb where a filament looked to be hanging and/or loose. Did repair at no charge. Got back in truck and pulled away not noticing that selector was in the OFF position so therefore, no messages when braking. I turned selector to headlights ON and low and behold the message appeared every time I had to brake.

I took some advise to just take it back to CARMAX since I was well within my 30 day warranty with them to see what they could come up with. Needless to say they also said they found a faulty bulb and replaced it no charge. I got on my way and before I got to far, I wanted to test it myself and guess what, "Parking Light Out" came up. Called service rep I was dealing with and he asked me to come back and him and technician would come out so I could explain what was happening. I went back, technician came out and I explained the whole deal on how the parking lights and/or headlights had to be on in order to get the message and that if they are OFF, you will not get anything. He took the truck back and in about 15 minutes he brought it back to me and stated he could not get it to go off and the I practically now have new lights all around. He said he check the computer (theirs) and seen where they may have to flash the system to get it to go off and that it is one of those deals where they need me to go to a dealership.

I made an appointment at a ram dealership near me (not the same on as before) and went straight there from CARMAX. They looked at it for about 30 minutes and found that I had a bad socket. Unfortunately, they didn't have it in stock. He said he ordered some since he wanted to have a few in stock there and that it would be around 60 bucks for repair. Made appointment for next day and brought the truck in. Wasn't there but about 20 minutes and they replaced the socket (can't remember if it was the rear driver or passenger side) and flashed the system. Got in truck, while still at dealership, and tried braking with the lights ON and NO MESSAGE APPEARED! YESSSSSSS! EUREKA!

Called CARMAX and spoke with service rep that I had worked with since he wanted me to call him anyway, as well as the technician, and told him what was found and what was done. He said for me to fax him over the bill and they would send me a check to reimburse me for the repair.

As of the writing of this UPDATE. Everything is working as it should. So much that I have been looking at some LED lights. But that is another topic for another forum post!

I am having the same issue on my 16 ram 1500,
I can replace the bulb socket myself in the tail lights
but my dealer wants 120 dollars to reflash the system.
Can I disconnect the negative on the battery and do a hard reset to solve that issue??

Glad to now you got it fixed and reimbursed; seems Carmax is good for their warranty. Thanks for posting both your problem and solution-that is what helps members who may have this in the future

Hello MarkoR,
We can look into this further and see if there is any assistance we can provide. However, it is likely a dealer visit will be needed as our team is not mechanically trained ourselves. Please send us a private message with additional details.

LED's have a lot less resistance than incandescent bulbs so the truck thinks you have a light out. You'll need to add a resistor.

Honestly, it’s the exact same as the original post. When lights are on, it’ll DING parking light out every 20/30 seconds. But I’ve not found a single bulb not work. Now this only happens obviously at night, when the lights come on. No problem using turn signals during the day. But once it’s dark. Turn signal will cause the DING as well as just normal driving

I have the same problem. 2018 Ram 2500. I had the left rear blinker continuously going out. I had LEDs. My mechanic removed the LEDs and put regular bulbs so now I have the Parking Light out alert when I have my headlights on and press the break or turn the signals on. If headlights are off It doesn't show up. I'm going to present all this to my mechanic and see what he can do with it. From what I'm reading here are some indicators. - Bad Sockets - Bad Resister - Needs to be flashed - Bad wiring

I know this is an old thread but it still happens…. Just had the same situation on a dodge ram 1500 2014, replaced my 3rd brake light which was weathered. Noticed the message only happens when the lights were set to auto which saved me some headaches in the daytime. The brake light socket was toasted (but still worked) on both sides so I replaced both and the bulbs… replaced the reverse bulbs too…. Still happening… on a prayer I replaced the 2 license plate sockets (which looked worn) and the bulbs and it worked… thank god… hope this helps someone else…
