Does anyone happen to have the part # for this on the 2013's?

My dealer is telling me they cant add the tailgate mounted camera and that it has to come from Chrysler like that? They even went as far and said it doesnt work on the head unit I have (8.4a R3) which is funny because I've seen em on other stickers installed after the fact.

If someone can get me a part number that would be awesome so I can show them :)

the dealerships don't know what the new radios are capable of
all the new radios have been available in the cars & Jeeps for a couple years
the Rams are just now getting them

In the past, if the radio had a touch screen, you could connect a Parkview camera to it

Uconnect® 8.4A/RA3

I think that it is currently only available from the factory due to the way it connects to the system. Due to the new communication architecture, an "aftermarket" solution has not been released yet. In order for it to function properly there is alternate software and wiring required, and though in theory it could be implemented, Chrysler has not allowed dealers acces to the required equipment and software.

I dont think it's the dealers fault I believe Chrysler is not allowing them access.

I was told the same thing about the camera, It's a different tailgate that comes prepped with the mount and wiring. The tech said if I want it aftermarket, they would have to replace the rearview mirror, or add an additional screen for the camera...

BTW they also didn't know they could upload nav to the current head unit.

the camera will still mount into the tailgate handle, as it has for a few years, the wiring will still be run the same way as in the past

What they can't yet answer is how it plugs into the touch screen radio, like the RA3

· RA1, RA2, RA3 and RA4 radios will be on a parts restriction until 05-06-13.

Is that restriction just for ordering parts, or is it for truck orders too? I've been waiting months for the RA2 because I need bluetooth... funny how you could order bluetooth as an option on the base radio in the 2012 Express but not on the 2013 Express. So just to get bluetooth, I have to wait for the touchscreen to become available next year. The RA2 is already in other Chrysler vehicles, so why is it taking so long to put it in a Ram? Just venting...

I'm still not confident that my dealer can get this done.

They had 3rd party company install the license plate frame (which doesn't even work yet), and honestly I'm not a big fan of it, I'd rather have the stock park view in the tailgate.

None the less, the dealer doesn't know anything about either optoon. Frustrating....

I'm subscribing...same deal here...I want the park view camera setup and it did not come on the truck I bought. I thought it would be a no bainer to add it or throw a lockpick on the radio...wrong on both counts. I love the truck but I hate not having the camera setup.

Im not worried about the lockpick, VR is fine and I dont need to watch DVD's while I drive (I didnt even get the center console add on).

All I want is my backup cam... and getting nothing but the run around. Luckily I had the dealer "throw it in" so the work will get done, its just a matter of when.

I can confirm that it's likely March to June, according to Ram officials, before we'll see the Mopar kits.

Lockpick says give them a couple of months, they are working on it right now.

I'm betting the lockpick will be the solution, cheaper, and quicker. The stories of folks trying to add cameras to the 2012 and prior is bad enough...new system for 2013...I only hope it's easier.

first of all, the backup camera goes into the proper tailgate handle
not in the license plate like the Dart car

so you first need the proper tailgate handle, preferably one that has a lock on the opposite side
then you install the camera lens into the hole opposite of the locking mechanism
a wire pigtail plugs into the camera & hangs just outside of the bottom of the tailgate,
at that point another pigtail plugs into the first pigtail ( that is done so that you can remove the tailgate when needed )
the second pigtail is also short, it only is about 3 feet long, likely so you can work on the rear exhaust section.
then a 3rd pigtail follows the frame along the drivers side, as does your tail light wiring, to a point where it enters your firewall & then goes up to the rear of the radio & plugs into it
The image is displayed on the touch screen, not the rear view mirror

when you buy the camera kit, it comes with an installation CD
crawl under a new 2013 Ram that has the tailgate handle camera & see for yourself

my rear view camera on my '09

Parkview back up camera is standard equipment on the 2013 Laramie quad & crew cabs and Laramie Longhorn crew cab models
Optional on the other models

Im familiar with "how" it works...

The 2013's have the camera in the tailgate and the output on the headunit. Thats not the problem. Problem is Chrysler and my dealer are saying there is no additional part number for this in their systems, which baffles me because I've seen it on 10 different 2013's with the same head unit I have (8.4a).

They did the same thing for the aluminum running boards. They said they dont have an "accessory" part number, that they only have a "replacement" part since you can only get them from the factory with it installed.

I think its just NEW stuff and it hasnt trickled down hill yet...

Reason there is no part number is because until March Parts for 2013's are not available for order and sale. They have been restricted till then as all parts are going towards new production only. Some have asked what about for replacments under warranty. Well the simple answer is a warranty replacment part isn't a part that is for sale.

I just talked to my local dealer and they're seriously the most retarded people I've ever dealt with.

How can a DODGE dealer not know/understand what DODGE is pushing out in the future? Is the communication from corporate that bad?

He's telling me that the only thing available for the 2013's is a 3 in external LCD that is ran to a backup camera... SERIOUSLY? Is this 1990?

I asked him why they have a rig on their lot with the SAME EXACT stereo that I have in my rig and HAS THE PARKVIEW CAM installed. He said "I dont know, thats strange"

This is seriously the dumbest sh*t I've had to deal with in a long time....

I think the Mopar headquarters is slow to release the accessories due to the new line up. The dealers are just not vesting as much time as we do in knowing all the details. I'm usually the one with the answer when purchasing or getting an accessories. I've come to appreciate those long term dealership employees that really try to know and things like these message boards.

I'm waiting on the cameras to be released or lockpick (one more month supposedly) to release their hack to the system.

Lockpick is a lot more...it turns on menu items that would typically be hidden, adds the ability to add four cameras (front, rear, sides, etc.) or more, enter Nav data on the fly and even play videos off an iPhone. I don't use the DVD hack and ironically that takes care of itself in the newer models since they don't have DVD players. I do play videos on long trips but for the wife and who ever is traveling with us. I do not watch them myself but listening to the movie is enough to keep me entertained. I can listen to Planes, Trains, and Automobiles a hundred times :)

I camera deal is worth it alone - by the time you buy that Mopar camera and pay to have it programmed to the radio...get ready for sticker shock. For $225 to $325ish, I have a camera, install, and setup all on my timeline and without a trip to the dealer...and you can add aftermarket cameras to the tailgate handle, or use the Mopar one but they are pricey.

I don't think there's a time limit...stand your ground and wait for the factory setup to be released. I think it will work out, just have to wait.

#26 ·
for those that are wondering when they can get the REMOTE CD/DVD PLAYER, Sales Code RH1, it will be available in May
None of the 2013 radios have a CD player within the radio, it will be in the console by your right elbow

#31 ·
Guess I will have to watch this closely. I have the 8.4an and have no reasonable understanding why it didn't have the camera other than it just wasn't included, so it is the only thing I want to add.

#32 ·
I see in the vendor area that Nav-TV maybe real close to a release as well...whoever gets it to market first will get my business.

#33 ·
or if I flip back one page they responded already :) Can't wait.
