I'd recommend bringing it to a certified dealer for diagnosis and repair. DM me if you need assistance establishing an appointment. - Kevin T, Social Connect Team

I am not sure if the EPS racks can actually be repaired or if they have to just be replaced. There were a couple guys who got bad ones right when the 2013s came out when they first went to EPS; their steering failed and they got new EPS racks under warranty.

Be sure to let us know what happens

OK, so I will try to shed some light on this issue. If you look at other forums you will see this is a continuing issue with the Ram (1500 and 2500 at least). I started having this warning and loss of power steering a couple of months ago 2014 Ram 1500). It is very random and would normally do this upon start up. I would let it sit a minute and restart and it would be cleared and work fine. I spoke with a service manager and was told they could not do anything unless the warning light was on as the code thrown is not saved. One day I was driving and the code was thrown and no power steering. Drove for 17 miles straight to a dealership. They pulled the code but did not have a tech available to look at it. When they started it up the next day, no warning. They had my truck for 5 weeks and could not get it to duplicate. The day before I went to pick it up the dealer told me they just got a 2019 Ram 1500 in with the same problem. Again could not duplicate after restarting the truck. The day after I picked up my truck, the code was thrown and no power steering, unfortunately no dealers open on Sundays. The code is frustrating the dealers as it does not tell them where or what the problem is. They have to trace it from the main CPU through the sensors to the rack. The failure could be anywhere. The cost to replace the entire rack is about $2300. This is a very frustrating issue that Dodge knows about, in fact there was a recall on the 2015 Rams but no others. This is a very unsafe issue as well. If you lose power steering on a winding road (I live in NC) you may be thrown off the road, same for if it's out and then corrects itself. There are also problems on the Chevy and Fords as they now have the same steering set up. I looked at a new Tundra as they have the old school pump/hose steering, but their top of the line is still a step down to the Ram Laramie. Sigh.

just curious were you able to get this matter resolved? I have a 2014 ram 1500 and I’m starting to have the same issues. It only happens to me when I first start it up and if it’s cold outside. I drive for about 3 minutes and then i restart the truck and the steering is back to normal. Starting to get very frustrating.

I am having the same problem I was sitting in my 2014 dodge ram 1500 and the steering light came on with an exclamation point and now the steering is hard. So I checked the 125 amp fuse on the battery post leading down to the rack but that was good then I check fuse f78 in the fuse box under the hood then went under the truck and unplugged the plug-in that goes to the rack it pinion and tested for power and ground everything checked out. So my guess is that the power steering rack and pinion module is the problem. Hard to find one and if you do they want at least 1500-2500 just for the rack and pinion because the module is built into the rack have to change the whole unit

Don’t do that. I made a video on YouTube. It’s not the greatest video in the world but if you have any mechanical sense you’ll be fine. I went through the same thing as you. Dodge will tell you that you need a new rack and pinion and that yours is unserviceable. $2500 parts and labor. I changed my power steering belt inside the rack and pinion. I did it without removing the whole rack too. 1.5 hours tops to fix.$56 for the belt. Your power steering belt being torn is most likely the culprit if your steering is hard all the time. If it’s intermittent, then it’s an electrical issue most likely. Check it out. It’ll save you thousands

I think it’s the only video out there

Well I finally figured my power steering problem. My code reader did read any codes. So I went to my friends shop and he scanned with his and these are the codes as follows we found , c15db-00,c2217-00,c2128-00. All we did was erase the codes and the power steering started working again not sure if it’s a glitch or intermittent issue but will have to wait and see if I lose my power steering again. I hope this is help full to others having this problem. I was about to buy a rack & pinion. My friend saved me.

Ok now the issue came back but now when I turn to the right or left it jerks hard into on coming traffic more of a safety issue now it does turn easy it’s just that jerks hard. Going to have to replace soon. I did do some research and there is recalls out there with the same issue just not my year.

Any new information out there about this issue?
My '14 has been working 100% fine all spring/ summer as i expected it would. I know its going to start failing as the cold weather arrives. Ive started referring to it as my 35degree truck !

Did some research on the NHTSA site and found a status update for the Aug2023 investigation.
Still trying to decide if I should go ahead with $3700 repair for what is almost certainly a solder defect at cold temps.

Below is the company responce .. essentailly says there is no single root cause.. from the report:

"FCA US’ analysis indicates that the identified complaints and repairs are A) the result of a variety of
unrelated reasons and B) do not disproportionately stand out from other peer vehicles sets. FCA US
respectfully requests the Agency close this investigation."

INRL-RQ23003-10698.pdf is the full report.. see pages 8-10.
