I stumbled across this article this morning; it does a great job showing and explaining the differences between the 5.7 from 2003-2008 and the 2009-present Eagle 5.7. It does a good job getting into the details of what changes were necessary to accommodate VVT and MDS, etc...

Some notable differences include:
-Connecting rods
-Crank
-Cams
-Heads (obviously)
-Valves
-Blocks
-Intake/Exhaust ports
-Pushrods and lifters

There's also a lot of good info on the differences in timing systems.

I thought about putting this in the powertrain section, but then it could go in the one for 3rd or 4th gens, so I figured GD would be a good central location to avoid a duplicate thread.

Good read indeed. Thanks for posting. I joined the ranks of a lot of Hemi owners in my family, and coming over from Ford, I'm still catching up on all the Hemi technologies. This article should help me have meaningful conversation whilst sipping cold beer talking about Hemi's at family gatherings lol.

Lol I need to get my dad to read this so he can catch up to me

He's the only other Hemi owner in my family that I'm aware of. I have an uncle with a 300,000+ mile 2002 Ram 1500, but that's a 4.7. Mom's side of the family is all GM owners, or the few that defected to 'Yota.

Oh man, where to start. My brother has a 2011 1500, my mom a 2009 Aspen, my step-sister a 2008 300c, my brother in law a 2005 Magnum, my cousin a 2016 2500 (6.4), and my step dad a 2015 Grand Cherokee (Although not quite sure he has a Hemi, maybe Pentastar?) and a good friend of mine who I consider family a 2003 1500.

So yea, l think that's about it. Lot's of Hemi's a family gatherings!

Awesome! Unless your step dad has an SRT with the Apache 392 he doesn't have a Hemi. The other Grand Cherokees only come with the EcoDiesel or Pentastar.

To clarify, Thunderhorse was responding to my comment of my family member having a "2015" GC, which it does look like you can only get an SRT with the Hemi.

Jeep stopped putting "HEMI" badges on the Jeeps several years ago. I guess it didn't seem politically correct to advertise it, and most "soccer moms" didn't know what a hemi was anyway.

The only place you see "hemi" on my wife's GC is on the engine cover. It appears to be the same cover as the 5.7 Challengers.
