Tow vs Standard Mirror Width?

I am looking to replace my truck with newer Ram. The one I have has the standard mirrors. I want my next one to have the tow mirrors. My issue is that it is kind of tight when going in and out of my garage stall. Not alot of extra room on each side. I remember someone saying the tow mirrors are wider in the folded down position over the standard mirrors. Does anyone know how much wider? Thanks in advance!

They fold in too. Just pull them in and you'll be fine.

I think they are a hair bit wider, but not a lot.

With that said.. take a real hard look at the towing mirrors. They (For a lack of a better term) suck when folded down. You loose the ability to use the Convex portion of the mirror which takes up quite a bit of space from the mirror itself. If you aren't going to be towing something large frequently, I wouldn't buy anything with them. Mine, like 99% of the other HD guys stay folded up all the time.

I will say power folding is worth its weight in gold. It allows you to fold them in last minute instead of having to get out and move them by hand.

Just my two cents.

Best example I have. Not towing on the left truck, towing (Folded in) on the right.

I have the tow mirrors and use the convex portion all the time while they are down. Allows me to see the area right next to the truck without turning my head to look and eliminates the blind spot. Why do you say you can't use those mirrors down? You can aim them manually and they work well.

Correct.

I wish my truck fit into my garage

I've got tow mirrors on my megacab, when I want to pull in or back in to my garage, I open my drivers window and fold my mirror in and compensate for that when entering the garage, just stay a little more to the drivers side, that way your passenger mirror is still out for reference. Works like a charm.

Looks like 6.15" on each side-I wonder if that's folded in or out?

Quick measurement off my tow mirrors on my 2016 2500:

all measurements taken from base of window to outside of mirror.

- 7" Folded in flat against the truck
- 17" Normal position
- 20.25" Flipped out to tow position.

maybe this helps when eyeballing your truck with its current mirrors.

Jumping in the thread here... I just ordered a 16' 1500 with the tow mirrors, and by my measurement they are 104' wide. Bummer that they do not offer the power fold option in the 1500 series, but they do in the 2500.. anyway.. wondering if any of you know if I want to downgrade to the standard mirrors that would have shipped with my Big Horn, if the dealer can program them to power fold? I thought I had read that this is only something that can be done at the factory.

My 2015 Laramie has the "flip up towing mirrors and I'm very pleased with them. Are some folks really complaining about re-adjusting them when flipped from up to down and visa versa. Have we become a country of "convenience rules" or what. How hard can it be to push a button to readjust 2 mirrors as the manual (small section) of the mirror, at least on my truck, does not require adjustment as it works in either up/down positions.
