Towing Mirrors versus Standard Package Mirror

Ok, here's another question for you guys...

Towing Mirrors versus the standard package mirrors on a 2500 Longhorn?

Are the towing mirrors the really long suckers that stick out like 25 feet? If they are they are FUGLY.

Obviously the main purpose of this truck is towing, I'm curious what everyone thinks between the two. Standard mirrors and put towing extensions on them or just get the towing mirrors for the $180 upgrade. Are the towing mirrors worth it?

thanks again... Probably will have another question here pretty quick... :)

Unless you tow a really wide (100" or more) you probably don't really need them. Also the bubble mirror parts of the tow mirrors are designed to work when the tow mirrors are flipped up, which is why you see people driving around with their tow mirrors deployed when they aren't towing.

The towing pkg. Has the big none electric folding mirrors. Because I only tow my travel trailer 7-8 times a yr I deleted the big tow mirrors and got the power folding. I will be in the car wash and in the woods hunting so this will be more user friendly. I will also save some $ with the cheaper price of the STD mirrors and a nice set of the snap on after market tow mirrors.

Some states require tow mirrors or have specic requirements governing mirrors and towing. For example when I last checked, in Arizona where I live, you have to be able to see at least 200' behind the trailer in your mirrors. There have bee people who have been cited for towing without mirrors. When I towed my 18' Aliner I was hard pressed to see much beyond the rear of the trailer in my standard mirrors. Now I tow a 28' TT and I really need tow mirrors to tow safely and feel at ease. Since I am not towing all the time, I have the standard mirrors and add McKesh tow mirrors when towing.

Never liked the tow mirrors when they were in regular driving position. Couldn't get use to the flat mirror on the right. Also didn't care for how far they stick out. I have a mirror extension that I use now.

I like the tow mirrors myself, I just traded in a 2012 Ford F350 DRW with the 6.7 PS and it had the tow mirrors and I become so attached to how you can see behind in the big mirror and how you can see your rear wheels in the smaller portion that I had to get them in this truck. Because I am used to how the Ford's mirrors were, I drive mine in "up" position even when not towing. I like to see...

my black 2013 had 'em :
giant, ugly IMO, make wind noise, add wind drag, hurt fuel economy, cool puddle lights tho ...

when I was looking for black's replacement, my main criteria was
NO TOW MIRRORS

now, my white 2013 has the 'base' SLT mirror: heated, no puddle lights, no power folding, plenty big...

I don't tow trailer, and if I ever do it will be a small one.

if I ever need 'em, I'll get temporary mirror extensions..

You may just have presented a compelling case, at least for me, not to get the OEM tow mirrors when you mention "wind noise, wind drag and hurt fuel economy". I have given thought to a new truck and was thinking if I did, since I am towing, I would get the OEM and do away with my add on mirrors because they frequently create wind noise. Perhaps now regardless of what I do, I'll stick with my McKesh tow mirrors, because they go on and off quickly, work very well and I do not have to live with them when not towing.

Well, we were out looking at the trucks again and discovered that the tow mirrors and the standard pkg mirrors appear to be the same size EXCEPT when the two mirrors are flipped up into tow mode. That's what I was seeing all the time going down the road and why they looked like the mirrors stuck out so far.

So I guess I may opt to get the tow mirrors afterall, I just dont' like the loss of power folding. So many decisions....

I"m gonna have to make up my mind here pretty quick. The wife is starting to get cranky... :)

I just received my new 2500 and I dont think I would go without tow mirrors. The one problem with these tow mirrors, and I talked about it in my review last week, is they do stick out too far. To be honest, they are not nearly as good as GM or Ford tow mirrors. Though Ford pioneered the modern day tow mirror in the late 90's, GM's mirror is by far the best due to the bottom mirror not being as rounded as the Ram or earlier Ford mirrors. To sum everything up if I lost someone, I still would get them, but I would say I'd prepare to have them up all the time. It's a double vision with them down, and I can't do it. lol

I have tow Mirror on my truck. I had them on my 11 sierra too. The ones on the sierra was by far more usefull. Who said that the side wide angle was a good idea. The only way to get them at the bottom is to put the mirrors in the " tow mode " which is stupid. My tow Mirrors on my sierra was always vertical.

With those Mirror I didn't had any blind spots on my truck.
