My understanding is that this is a trim piece to eliminate the "gap" that would otherwise be there. Meaning it would lend to a very cheap look and seem to be 'mis-installed' without it. Too much light shining through and seem like the bed was too far back without it.
Wind, rain and debris can get all in there anyway (and does). The beds move quite a bit on Pickups (Fords are the worst for this) so the gap is needed.

 

i was told by the dealer it was for aerodynamics keeps the air flow smoother thus less drag so i was told

 

heard this as well. dealer was really pushing aerodynamics on me too. i like it. looks good and sort of a debri shield. doors have it too.

I just bought a 2010 Ram SLT. I only has 10,000 miles on it. I have noticed that there is not very much air coming out of vents with it on high and recirculation on, I have search the forum and found nothing on it. Has anyone had this trouble?

I have not seen or heard of this issue. I have a 2010 ST, my heat runs like this Hot or Cold no in between. Have not tried the recirculation mode. Will try it out to see if I have the same issue.

 

In my area we get alot of leaves ect in the fall. I looked in that area one time and it was full of leaves. My worry is the leaves/water rusting that area. I think I might remove the strip just so its not a catch all.

 

The strip is there for aerodynamics. Something about keeping turbulent air moving or something like that. If you're ever under your truck, or look between the bed and cab, you'll see another rubber strip horizontally at the bottom of the bed which is another aerodynamic piece.

It is also in there to cut down on up drafting from the bottom of the truck. If you have a rear slider on your truck it will cut down on any fumes that may work their way up to it.

 

Mine has come off in the car wash. Lost one and went to the dealer. Like 30$. The are the same part for driver and pass sides. I'm sure the wear out like everything else

I think its just for looks. Be sides who wants to see dirt and crap back there and the vent louver and the top of gas tank, lol.

 

They cost about 30 buck at the dealership. I replaced one of mine after it fell off.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm not sure where else to turn. Does anyone know the part number for the vertical strip between the box and cab? I lost one on my '13 1500, and was quoted $183 (!) from the dealer for a replacement! I'm thinking I can find it cheaper online, but I can't seem to find the part number anywhere. Any help is much appreciated.

The rear cab vents may be the second reason for keeping air from blowing through there

 

Google search the P/N they are available from a number of places. I got mine from the dealership as it is only 10 block away and the price was about the same.

 

Is there still one that is horizontal at the bottom of the bed between the cab and bed on the 2013 1500 Sport Crew Cabs?? I know i'm missing a vertical weatherstrip on the passenger side as my friend just pointed it out.
