I thought of using the dome light, but they are powered full time. I wonder if you could use the garage door opener(s), as it only works with the ignition on? At least that's where I plan to go for power when I hook up my dash cam this spring/summer. Like you, I don't want excess wires run all over. Looks tacky...

I am still trying to think of a place to mount my ham radio, and it's antenna without looking gaudy.

I hard wired my radar detector to my mirror. It came with a kit that slides into the plug of the mirror. It’s called a mirror tap. I don’t know if they sell them for cameras.

 

I don't have any power coming out of this connection. Is there something I'm missing? I have checked all wires with a multi-meter and i get nothing. I'm in a 17 1500 laramie

 

I ran mine in through the front edge of the overhead console, across the headliner, down the A pillar and under the dash to the 12V power outlet wiring.

What model dash cam did you go with? I've been trying to find one that would work up here in Alaska. We get extreme cold and also extreme heat. (Mind you the temp is not hot but the Sun is shinning for 12+hours in the summer) And previous dash cams I tried all couldn't take the sun and cold.

 

X2 on the mirror tap. Power should be pink wire with yellow stripe. Ground right next to it. Two wire harnesses up there. Its the lower, bigger one on the passenger side.

Hope I got that right. Didn't do it that long ago. LOL. :4-dontknow:

 

I need to follow this. Are there any updates from any installs? I know I can ran to the fuse box, But I did consider going into the overhead console. Seems like an easier way to install my camera.
