i have a 2015 ram 1500 sport crew cab with the 5.7 bed its the 5.7 HEMI has 4x4 and the 8 speed auto with 392 gearing is there anyone else that has the similar truck that can relate to the terrible fuel consumption... i bought it new at the dealer and specifically asked for a truck with great mileage and i get this gas hog far from what i asked for but im told its the best ill get 500 km/ 310 miles to a tank heck my 2003 ram 4.7 magnum got better and i didnt make payments on it and they call this the most fuel efficient pickup ever... what a lie

The 3.0L diesel engine in the 1500 is the most fuel efficient full size pick up ever, not the Hemi.

What are your driving habits, city/highway? You have a new vehicle, things are still tight in the drive line, you are using winter grade fuel for a loss of 1 to 2 mpg. You are in sub zero weather, another hit on your mpg. Do you let it sit and warm up, another hit on mpg. Towing or carry any weight in the bed?

How many miles on it, send a pick of the evic with the mpg on it.

When I first picked up my Hemi in 2009 I got 13 mpg out of the dealer supplied full tank. It got much better after 1,000 miles and hit its peak at just over 3,000 miles.

Give it some time.

I'm usually easy on it. the green eco light is on a lot and periodically I'll open it up I now have 2000 total km on it. Took it to banff recently approx 500 km from edmonton and by the time i got there I had a little over 1/4 tank left were as a buddy went and had a little over 1/2 tank left but he has 3.21 gears yet the dealer says other wise and won't change my gears back trying to charge me $4000 to do it...

The 3.92 gears were Givin to me because the dealer told me that this ratio with the 8 speed tray is the best mpg I'd get but I have friends with the same truck just the standard 3.21 gears get way better more like 800-900 km per tank all city and 1100-1200 highway where I'm at ball park 550 city and 750 highway which is my only complaint other than that I love every bit of my new truck

If it is literally 500km you're getting for a full tank, thats pretty bad. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that works out to just shy of 12 mpg.
If you are doing a ton of stop and go commuting and city driving, then probably not a huge surprise. But if you have a good amount of highway driving mixed in, I'd expect better.
And from what I've read, the larger 3.92 gears probably cost about 1mpg.

My 2009 HEMI, w/ 3.55 ratio, 2x4 gets 17.4 MPG with 700 - 900 pounds in the bed all of the time
I drive mostly highway & at about 70 MPH

MPG drops way down on Secondary roads

All the points mentioned are valid, where in Canada do you reside, im working in northern Ontario right now and up until last night we were still getting over night lows of -36c , which will have a dramatic effect on mileage on a new engine, even the shittiest mileage these days are still twice what engines used to get back in the day. Lol like others are saying be patient.

I average 12.5 in the winter and 14 in the summer (mpg). It warms up in the morning, and isn't driven with fuel efficiency in mind. That's all highway, but in rush hour traffic. When I take long road trips to the cabin with the truck fully loaded and towing a trailer with an Atv on it, I get around 16-18mpg. (Cruise set at 70). 3.92 gears. I don't think I could live with the v6 though. That seems like no fun.

You might be standing on it more then you think you are. I can watch the gas gauge move when I get on mine. The hemi loves the gas when you get on it. I have the 3.21 and average 16.5

I'm not like I said the green ECO light is on alot I posted a couple pics I just took today of my current averages since my last fill up

Distance traveled 325.8km/205.8 mi
Average consumption 20.1 L per100km/ 11.6 MPG
Average speed 27 km per hr/17 MPH
distance left 178 km/104 mi

What DustinT said. I think you should try to get the dealer to help you out with a gear swap. My .02

I've had my 2015 for a week. Hemi 4x4 with 3.92 gears. The first trip home was 250km and I averaged 11.3 l/100km. The rest of that tank was city driving and it went up to 15. I have the 121L fuel tank and I filled up just under a quarter tank. I had gone 600km and it took 93L to fill up. Meaning I probably could have got another 200km out of it. Also I've never seen a green Eco light on the dash.

Edit: a gear swap will not solve your issue. You bought a hemi, time to face reality. I thought this was a troll thread when I first read it.

See just based on what you said your getting is way better than what I'm getting I think there is something wrong see my pics for the green ECO light it's a light to indicate that your In economy fuel saving and not on the trotted and MDS will only kick in when the ECO light is on if you never seen your light that means your always accelerating and 600 km with about 1/8 of a tank is still better than mine

I think the problem rests with the buying choice and lack of homework before making the purchase. I just picked up my 2015 Laramie, quad cab 4x4 that I ordered in December. I did a ton of research a ton of research before buying and specifically ordered the pentastar V6 with 3.55 gears. On my first fill up I averaged 16.5 miles per gallon and that's in sub zero temperatures the whole time and running in 4 wheel drive the first 50 miles as it snowed the day I picked it up. Also, the motor and transmission are no where near broke in.

So your comment on the fuel efficiency of Ram trucks is really not accurate. I love my truck and anticipate I will be averaging 19 miles per gallon when it is fully broke in and I add a tonneau cover to the bed.

I love my new Ram and it's fuel efficeincy and power.

Seriously I have done all my homework and research I have many friends that have the same truck just it's a 2014 and has the standard gearing and they all get between 800-900 km city and between 1000-1100 highway even pulling boat mine is completely stock with no weight and I'm getting 550 city and maybe 750 highway

i have the same exact truck has you other that its a 2014, same trans, same gears, crew cab also,..

I average 750km per tank and I also live in Canada, but how you drive it also has incident on the fuel economy, it would not be hard for me to only get 500km

#26 ·
You see what I mean that's what the dealer told me I should expect and I was happy but 550 is what I'm getting yet the dealer keeps giving me the cold shoulder on it and telling me to wait till after 10000 k. We're as I've been asking some service guys and they say with my driving habit at break in there is no reason I shouldn't be getting close to what I was told..

My truck has the 3:92 ratio and the 121 litre tank, my commute to work is 620 km's, I consistently arrive with a 1/4 tank remaining, and I have the 6 speed, so the gear ratio scenario isn't the golden beebee. I'm sure your truck will improve, just a matter of time.

Speed is super slow you are rarely reaching your more efficient gears, mostly city driving, you have auto 4wd on which will effect your mileage slightly and it looks like you do a ton of idling (idle = 0 mpg) by the elapsed time indicated. Driving Habits make a huge difference.

The difference between 3.92 rear and 3.21 gear would be 1 to 2 mpg. 3.92 gear should net you some benefit with stop and go city driving where the 3.21 would hurt you more so a gear change won't help. The 3.21 would net you about 1 or 2 mpg more traveling at highway speeds 60 mph and above.

2011 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 crew cab 3.92 gears. With the idling in the winter and the crappy winter gas I average 600 kms to a tank. Summer time I average between 800-900 with the 121 litre tank. Pretty sure I am at total average of 16mpg over 168,000 kms. Mine got significantly better once I had a few thousand kms on it.

Youre in the north and bought a truck with a hemi. People buy hemis with 3.92 for power. You dont buy that truck for good gas mileage. Are you towing? I was getting around 14-15mpg on my 5.7 with 3.92 too the last few months (freezing here) but I had 11k miles and on the highway in the summer i can get 21 easy. Im assuming you are letting it idle a lot to warm up up there and have a heavy foot. The sticker shows 15/21 but thats the trucks best under normal conditions. I think thats great
