Just got a 2016 2500 4x4 with the 6.7 diesel engine, how do you guys like the engine? Someone told me they were having crank shaft problems, is there any truth to this? I'm really enjoying my truck, all seems good.

If there is an engine with a better reputation for longevity then I am not aware of it and it is not available in a pickup truck in this hemisphere.

Not quite the same engine, but there is a dude with a 1988 12 valve who has over 3,000,000 miles on it in the Cummins high mileage club. Cummins is a family owned company and goes to great lengths to protect their reputation. That starts with designing some of the best engines ever to grace heavy equipment and vehicles, and goes to their tenacious legal department that aggressively pursues any sort of defamation. You know how VW, FCA, and now GM are getting/were investigated for cheating emissions? Cummins already got investigated and was cleared within weeks

I have had a lot of good experience with the Cat C12 and C15s.

Detroit does suck

What Electro said. Diesels respond much better rolling into the throttle.

I doubt RAM will fix it because from their facet, it isn't broke, it is doing exactly what it was intended to do. What the goal is/was I'm not sure but it could be related to fleet economy standards.

I added the BD solution to mine, it brought back the driveability I am used to experiencing with any other vehicle, gas included.

I imagine that with 900 lb ft there is a fair amount of torque management involved in the Cummins HDs.

When people say "dead pedal" a lot of the time they are referring to the space int he gearing on the 545/65RFE transmissions where if you punch the gas there is sort of a dead spot due to gearing.

Think your confusing the VM Motori 3.0L with the Cummins 6.7. There have been incidents of crank bearing failures on the Eco Diesel 3.0. I have faith that the 6.7 Cummins is bullet proof, although I only have 8,000 kms on mine it's running great.

Pedal lag can be lessened with an easy mod.

Pull your stock intake box off, reach down into the turbo inlet tube and yank all the crap they put in there out of the tube.

Also, there's an interesting product out there for modifying the throttle position system called "Pedal Commander'. It appears they may be onto something.

Tell me, why did the engineers put that crazy looking device in the inlet tube just before the turbo. Before you start yanking stuff out, you first need to understand why it is there. Given the never-ending pressure for automakers to reduce costs and up profits, it isn't there just because. Some believe it is there to straighten out or vortex the air flow while others believe it is there to quite the turbo, no one really knows that I've found.

Pedal lag will not be reduced or changed by removing the inlet baffle (or whatever it is called) or the factory air box. And, the Cummins does not suffer from turbo lag either, just in case you were going to go there.

Pedal lag or dead pedal is designed into the software, for what reason I don't know.

Pedal Commander is one solution but a better solution is the BD throttle booster, it can be installed up and under the dash and an external switch can be dash mounted to control the various sensitivity levels.

Both my 13 Dually and my 15 SRW Cummins trucks got decent mileage.........upper teens if you set the cruise at 55-60mph. I even got 21mpg on a 200 mile road trip at 55mph with the '15 truck.........

These figures were BEFORE they re-flashed all the Cummins trucks and the mileage started to be horrible.

I have a 2014 with the 6.7 engine. Dead pedal is definitely there in mine. As mentioned, when starting to accelerate from a dead stop, take foot off the gas and then back on. There is a 2 to 3 second period were nothing happens and then it will accelerate. It really got my attention the first time I did that. I learned very quickly to keep foot on the pedal and don't let up unless needed for traffic reasons. It only happens from a dead start. I figured it was designed to do that for some reason, I just didn't know what it was.

My current project is roughly 95-100 freeway miles away and I'm getting 19.6 mpg with just shy of 8,100 miles

I am however noticing more and more some funky up and downshifts as well as what can only be described as a shudder when letting off and applying the pedal at low speed in 3 or 4 gear. Almost like a loose motor or tranny mount....... anyone else getting this sort of thing?

Ill be taking it in for it's next oil change and will have the dealer address these issues as well as the ever present passenger side front tire uneven outer wear due to factory alignment issues.
